Thread: What do you think?

    Default What do you think?

    Two questions.

What do you think of Epirus a good afaction or not? I think they're pretty much like Macedonia exept without the one reform...so why not play as Macedonia or wat?

Second wats the point of the Lonchophoroi Hippeis, They cost the same as the Molosson Agema, and the Agema Klerouchikon Hippeon and their pretty much the exact same stats exept missing like 1 defence? so why have any of the Agema, or Heppeis?

So first off there are maore than two questions.

    1. This raises many more questions. Why are you questioning the intrinsic value of this faction in the first place? Are there evil factions out there? What makes a faction good or evil? Do factions tend to be good with only moments of evil or are they naturally evil with only moments of good? So many questions...

    2. Macedonia and Epirus do have some similiar unit line ups. However Epirus is in a much better position to immediatly take on rome and focus expanding west. Where as Makedonia is already at war with KH and will likely forcus on consolidating Greece first and with their Lesbian territories head east to asia minor.

    3. Actually a statement with the wrong punctuation mark and not a question at all.

    4. Agema are elites and heavy cavalry. Using house rules to make armies with better consistencies I limit myself to one per army. Beeing elite in status I don't make these guys chase routers or skirmishers, only for breaking lines and flanking in glory are these men used for. Lonchophoroi Hippeis are medium calvalry and are very versatile on the field. I will have between 1-3 units. These warriors I will use to chase down anything that doesn't carry a spear or have too high of morale.

This is a gameplay question, but both can be answered by saying that that they have historical reasons...

Epeiros may have similar units as Makedonia and feel like a repeat but it is a historically important faction.
Lonchophoroi Hippeis represent a type of unit that was available to successor factions and was added even if there are similar units that could be used instead. Besides, isn't there different AORs?

Yes, you can recruit the Molloson Agema in Epeiros only, while Lonchophoroi are available in many different provinces.

I'm playing an Epirus campaign after finally deciding to stick at a faction other than the Romani and Saba and I'm finding it a lot of fun. There are so many different options open to you, after my first turn, where I took two Mak cities and defeated the Roman army outside Taras, I stared at the screen for what felt like hours wondering what to do. Should I keep up the offensive against the Maks, go for Megale Hellas, try for a ceasefire with the Maks as we no longer share a border and go north against the Illyrians and Getai, try to join the KH against the Maks or vice versa? And elephants just sealed the deal. Now if I could just figure out how the hell to use those phalanxes...

You prolly don't know but cavalry in this game has two attacks (normally), the standard one is the Spear attack, which is used to charge at enemy units. When in close combat, cavalry units have the ALT attack which like archers, changes to a more melee weapon (daggers/swords) in that attack, cavalry fares off better. Cavalry generally are normally in Charge-Retreat-Charge way, but Lonchophoroi actually is very good it can actually use the ALT attack more effectively than many of it's counterparts

I do know about the alt attack and everytime I use to it doesnt change to their swords. But after they charge they autimatically change to to their melee weapon so I never really saw the need to use it.

Epeiros was a least faction choice for me before, but I am enjoying it now pretty much than I played as the Maks.

One of the difference is that Eperios is located west of Greece, and the Maks is at the east of Greece.

I am very satisfied with my current campaign, as the Epeiros defending their territory in the southern Italy fending off the Romans with the help of allied Samnites and Bruttian. Then slowly move into Sicily to take Messana and Syracuse. On the other hand kicked out the KH from Greece and agree to a truce, and the Maks were gone.

As Epeiros, you will have a challenge of facing Romans and Carthagians all at the same time. All want a piece of Sicily.

Epeirotes are ugly, and their momma's dress them funny....

actually they have an easy start, and they have good units to my knowledge. If only one can capture Pella, they can get a huge source of income (since they can build a mine there-if you can wait 32 turns). I'd evacuate Italia, since Romani presence outnumbers Epeirotian one 3:1. and more idustrial oomph. I'd withdraw, regroup in the cpitl, reraise an army from the elites and the mines money in Pella, then come back with a stack or 2 (1 for campaign, other cut up into groups of 4 to garrison 5 cities)

Or why not do as I did, sell all your cities to the Getai and sail for Syrakousai for a friendly meeting with your old general and buddy Hiero.
