    Default The Anachronox thread

So makaikhaan's thread doesn't get pulled off track.

:carefully copies spelling off the game's box, one letter at a time: That word plays merry hell with my dyslexia so please excuse me as I mangle it repeatedly without being able to tell I've done so.

I didn't realise there were fellow Anacronox lovers here. It's a bit of a cult classic; neglected, underloved, shunned by the masses then and now.

I loved this game! It was the best game to come out of Ion Storm IMO, narrowly pipping Deus Ex due to the massive fun factor and humour.

Grumpus. Big white beard. Walking stick weapon. Yammer ability. Best RPG team member ever. You know I'm right.

    Right. Two very important questions:

Does anyone know how well it works on XP and modern machines?

How long does it take to play through roughly? I recall it was a shorter RPG, though at the time I was used to the likes of Baldur's '100 hours long' Gate. If it's short like 10-15 hours I might manage to squeeze in a replay ...
Frogbeastegg's Guide to Total War: Shogun II. Please note that the guide is not up-to-date for the latest patch.

Well, I haven't had the chance to play it for a while, just sporadically - but it looks like I'm just halfway through (at that volcanic themepark planet, Hephaistos wasn't it?) and I recall clocking in twenty hours.

Love the game. The style, the humor, the sheer character. That, and it's such fun to play. It's like every part of the game was treated as some kind of mini-game where the player should have fun whilst doing it, and it works excellently.

And Democratus had me giggling for hours after it joined the party. Brilliance.

Ah, I remember Anachronox. I'd play the demo for hours on end... mmm, good times.
In fact I was playing the demo not so long ago. I never got the full game. Is it worth it to try and get hold of it?

Certainly. If you liked the demo there's every chance you'll enjoy the rest of the game - moreso, because the game has a fairly slow start.

Good news, I'll be getting Anachronox tomorrow. I'll keep you informed.
I'll also be getting Shogun: TW (Gold Edition) but that's for another topic. Two games in a single day = Whoo-hoo.

Good grief, I forgot I had bought this from my local charity shop a couple of months back for a couple of quid! I haven't really got the room on my PC at the moment to install anything else as the old beast is clogged with other rubbish. I heard it's a bit of cult classic so that's why I bought it. Might have to get around to trying it out soon.
