    1194 Megas' Report

Military: As has been the norm there was no recruiting this turn. There was some rearranging of forces, however. Helarionas gained some garrison troops for use in his fight against the Venetians. Zagreb now has three spies in it waiting to open the gates for the first Romans to reach the city.

The captain led troops north of Ammonathas' army were told that the cause they had been sent for was unjust. With the Basileus' and Megas' opposition to the war against Appionas it took little to convince their loyal captain to disperse his men. This will also save on upkeep.

I myself have marched somewhat northwest of Constantinople so that if needed I can prevent an attack on Senator Appionas. I implore Ammonathas Kalameteros to end his war against that innocent man. Basileus Ioannis Tagaris and I disagree on much, but we are of one mind concerning this pointless attack on a Roman who has done none harm. Bucharest has been secured so the petty rationalization used for the war has ended.

    Economy:

With the dispersal of that small army we saved on upkeep this last season. I was also able to rearrange our merchants for optimal efficiency with the help of a few of my aides. They are now making slightly more money. However, the loss to revolt of Trebizond and Yerevan ,the citizens of which apparently couldn't decide whether they preferred to stay with Caesar Andronikos or Basileus Tagaris and instead declared independence, hurt our income.

Riots ended in Thessalonike and Bucharest.

Updates: The War of Marching Around a Lot

Erotikos and Sophianos continue to march around a lot, turning back northwest up the road they were going east on a turn before and west two turns prior. Are they going to move on Constantinople again, or maybe Nicaea? Maybe straight past those settlements to Sinope? Perhaps they wish not to be intercepted by the Caesar Andronikos and have decided to turn away from him long before they'd have a chance to meet. Or maybe they just enjoy stretching their legs and running in circles.

Caesar Andronikos has added his own marching in an attempt to match that of Erotikos and Sophianos, attempting to march in their direction to have a battle with them. Sadly he has much work to do to catch up.

I possibly throw my own hat in the ring with my march towards Sofia, although it might be argued that since I'm doing so as part of a separate conflict that my march is ineligible. Still, I think I will allow it, as technically I am part of the War of Marching Around a Lot due to my being at war with the instigators of the conflict.

Who will win the marching title? It's hard to say. Erotikos' team has a long head start with their march across Anatolia, and turning back to move in the opposite direction not once, but twice is a shrewd move, allowing much more marching. On the other hand they are in great danger of eventually doing something within the marches of the next few turns, a disadvantage not shared by our Caesar who is still far from any potential action and will assuredly get many more marches in. Then there's the upstart, me, frankly the underdog as I have no long distances to go and hope to do no more than a single turnaround, preferably away from Sofia and towards another enemy.

Don't think this contest is over yet, there is much more marching around to do.
