    Default More modding questions from Spartan198!

    I converted XGM's armored phalangites back to vanilla style armored hoplites (no offense to DimeBagHo, but phalangites being as heavily armored as hoplites doesn't make sense to me), complete with overhand spears and corinthian helms, but I've got two questions.

    1. How do I change the unit's voice recognition from "phalanx pikemen" back to the vanilla original "armored hoplites / hoplite elite" (ie, when you click on the unit, its name will be spoken out loud by the officer of the unit)?

    2. How do I change the avatar image in the panel at the bottom of the screen to reflect the change back to the vanilla skin?

    Both are in scriptorium under The Complete EDU Guide.

    1.
    Code:
    voice_type          voice
    Just change voice to whatever set you want.

    2. Find the dictionary entry in EDU for what your unit is. Look in export_units.txt and under your unit you should find among other things a UI entry. Change that to the UI card you want.

    Yea, you can change the voice in the Edu
    but it depends on what faction owns it about how the accent is. It's quit anoying.

    Try searching your data directory for a file with "Heavy_1" in it. Maybe a desr_voice will pop up (I dont have RTW files to hand).

    All I see in the EDU regarding voices is highlighted in bold:
    type greek hoplite elite
    dictionary greek_hoplite_elite ; Armoured Phalangites
    category infantry
    class heavy
    voice_type Heavy_1
    soldier greek_phalangite_armoured, 60, 0, 1.3
    attributes sea_faring, hide_forest, can_sap, hardy
    formation 1.33, 1, 2.66, 2, 8, square, shield_wall
    stat_health 1, 0
    stat_pri 12, 4, no, 0, 0, melee, blade, piercing, spear, 25 ,0.5
    stat_pri_attr no
    stat_sec 0, 0, no, 0, 0, melee, simple, piercing, sword, 25 ,0.9
    stat_sec_attr no
    stat_pri_armour 9, 6, 4, metal
    stat_sec_armour 0, 0, flesh
    stat_heat 4
    stat_ground -4, 0, -6, 0
    stat_mental 16, disciplined, highly_trained
    stat_charge_dist 2
    stat_fire_delay 85000
    stat_food 60, 300
    stat_cost 1, 900, 0, 65, 130, 900
    ownership greek_cities, romans_brutii
    I checked that line in the vanilla RTW EDU and it's the same. In RTW, they're referred to as armored hoplites and hoplite elites, but in XGM they're called phalanx pikemen.

    I'm not changing any faction ownership. All the changes are within the Greek City-States faction, so I don't think accents will be that much of a problem.

    And so then you want to change it from Pike sound to Hoplite sound (voice wise)?

    Okay, this is regarding the UI card. From what I can gather I simply replace this from XGM:
    {greek_hoplite_elite} Armoured Phalangites

    {greek_hoplite_elite_descr}
    Armoured phalangites are an elite among Greek soldiery, carefully selected and given the best training to make them superior spearmen. equipped with heavy armour, shields, pikes, and swords, they fight as phalangites in the Macedonian style, and are some of the best troops to use as an 'anchor' for a battle line. Like most phalangites they are highly effective against both infantry and cavalry in frontal assaults, but they are at risk if flanked or attacked from the rear. That said, their heavy armour and excellent training will stand them in good stead even when the fighting comes down to swords. \n\nThese elite troops can only be recruited in provinces that have a substantial Greek population in which the 'hoplite ethos' is taught from the earliest age.

    {greek_hoplite_elite_descr_short}
    Armoured phalangites are an elite among Greek soldiery, carefully selected and given the best training to make them superior pikemen.
    With this from RTW vanilla:
    {greek_hoplite_elite} Armoured Hoplites

    {greek_hoplite_elite_descr}
    Superior\nHardy\nCan Form Phalanx\nSapping Ability\n\nArmoured hoplites are an elite among Greek soldiery, carefully selected and given the best training to make them superior spearmen. Each of them is equipped with good body armour, greaves and a helmet and carries a large round shield, the hoplon that gives this kind of soldier the name of hoplite. Each man is also armed with a formidable thrusting spear called the xyston and a sword. They are usually employed as solid, close-packed groups of men, presenting a wall of spear points to the enemy. In phalanx formation, they use weight of numbers to batter into enemy formations.\n\nThey are vulnerable to flank and rear attacks, and ideally need some sort of light supporting troops to screen them as they approach the enemy.

    {greek_hoplite_elite_descr_short}
    Armoured hoplites are an elite among Greek soldiery, carefully selected and given the best training to make them superior spearmen.
    Correct or no?

    That will make all the info about the unit correct and may do the pic aswell (I know little about units just buildings mainly).

    If you want to assign the proper UI card, then simply replace the existing one with the vanilla card. UI cards take the unit's dictionary tag as name. So, for 'Armoured Hoplites', whose dictionary tag (in EDU) is greek_hoplite_elite, the card file will be greek_hoplite_elite.tga. For the small card, you need #greek_hoplite_elite.tga. export_units.txt only contains the textual info, though it depends on the dictionary tag as well.

    I found the XGM greek_hoplite_elite.tga file in the UI folder, but vanilla RTW doesn't seem to have a UI folder.
