    Default Iphicratean Hoplites

    Hello, I've always been a big fan of the iphicratean hoplite concept and I've been trying to find out more informations about their role and use in EB's timeframe but with very poor results so far as most info just points at the reform itself and nothing more.

    I was wondering if somebody more versed in the field than me could direct me to some good sources or at least some more info about them?

    Thanks in advance for your answers.

    This is a very informative article about iphicratean hoplites and their connection with peltasts and makedonian phalangists.

    Question Re: Iphicratean Hoplites

    As regards spear (doratos) and sword (xiphous), he made changes in the contrary direction: namely, he increased the length of the spears by half, and made the swords almost twice as long.
    He doubled the length of the spear and increased that of the swords;
    Hm, but in EB iphilcratean hoplites have actually shorter spears than the classical ones, iirc. Is that a bug, engine limitation or something?

    It's more like an animation thing. You see, EB homplites used to have the phalanx formation, so when they gave them the fs_o_f_spearman animation (overhand) their spears remained long... or so they have told me. I wonder if someone's going to change this eventually...

    the Iphikratous hoplitai are probably the most underrated hellenic unit really(they are rarely mentioned by many players-even those who deal with KH). but they are more flexiblet than a phalanx, and they have the ability to attack in close combat. did I mention the speed too?

    so yeah, what better unit in KH for marines (until the KH reforms that is)?

    Probably. I am aiming to change them to a spear-only unit with the ''shieldwall' ability ATM, for it seems that the phalanx formation with shorter spears is an outdated form of the Alexandrian pike formations. It also seems to work better if they have only 1 weapon, as when they fall down for exmaple, they switch to swords.

    Not exactly reforms, just when vanilla Marians hit the Koinon gets Macedonian-style phalangites. That's all.
