What are the requirements for running EB flawlessly?

My advice: Turn grass off completely. You'll be amazed at how much lag that gets rid of.

Well, I live in Norway, so I don't think I got ripped off (fooled a bit perhaps). Prices here are steep to say the least.

So what's the conclusion? Should my system handle it (i.e. I gotta check things) or should I just invest in better/more suitable stuff?

How fast is your "pretty fast Athlon dual core"?

EB runs only on very few systems lagless in 3x time compression with 2000 men during a siege...

The graphic card surely is not the problem (though the 8600GT sucks, I would have suggested you the far more powerful and only merely more expensive 8800GT), the 2GB RAM are okay too, your CPU power is the question left...

And of course: Do you have all the latest drivers applied? Try nvidia.com for your graphic card and your mainboard producers' website for mainboard updates (or also nvidia.com if you have a Nforce chipset)

I don't exactly remember at the moment, currently not privy to my machine. (AMD Athlon 64x2 rings a bell)

It was in the top range of 'ordinary' processors at the time I bought it. I don't know, 2-3 Ghz? I told the guy to give me the best available for the price I was willing to spend, and that seemed to be pretty accurate from looking around forums at the time. Think he took like 2-300 for himself, which is fair.

Don't have the drivers, no. Gonna check that out when I get home on monday.

i think youre expecting way to much if you want glass smooth battles with units on huge and 3x speed...

Although your system should run things fine, I suggest switching off the grass and seeing if that helps. If it does you might try using the vanilla grass textures instead of the EB ones.

As others have said, you should make sure you are using the latest Nvidia software drivers, update Windows with the latest patches and defrag your hard drive.

go to lake jackson, find MI, talk to Mr. Morris, and you'll get cheap computers fit for emprerors of the world. that way, you can run it flawlessly (like I do).
