Try reading FAQ topic above and guides for specific factions
i have but im still finding it very hard. the battles i seem to lose a LOT more men throught auto-resolve than me actually fighting it
Could you give us some specifics (i.e., which faction you're playing, the difficulty level, whether you're playing any mods, etc.)? That would help.![]()

ok, ive played as spain and england and i play on easy/easy and i dont know what to do what cities to take and i usually get bored of it
Have you patched your game? Because without patches it will be buggy and next to impossible to have satisfying tactical battles. You could try the retrofit mod: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downl...o=file&id=1581
It will give you a better unit balance and improved battlefield mechanics and doesn't change anything else. Maybe battles are indeed a bit harder in MTW2 than they were in RTW, which at least I think is a good thing.
Economy also works different than it did in RTW. Learn how to train your merchants and how to get the most benefit from diplomacy. Actually, you don't need a big army - cut down those military expenses and start building towards economy and population growth. This might help you: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=104416
Well, that's up to you. This is a strategy game and you have to develop your own plans and set your own goals. The game gives you a starting position and from there on you are free.
Finally, MTW2 is far more complex than RTW. So one needs some time to get to know it.
I had that problem too salemty. When you start a new campaign start building roads ,markets ,farming ,and ports ,this should give your economy a good starting position.Next recruit diplomats and make trade agreements with other factions. Now you should have your kingdom well on its feet in a few turns.Start taking over rebel settelments to expand your empire (Remember, money is the key to victory. If you have money you'll have armies).I hope this helps you!![]()

Welcome to the org, IrishBoy!
The first turns of a campaign are decisive indeed. I always try to rush in a good position before pausing and consolidating. After that, I check the situation and adjust my plans accordingly.
