Thread: Allied Armies

    Default Allied Armies

In my current Roman campaign I use a mix of units for my Roman armies (2 of everything, hastati, principes, leves, triarii, hastati samniti, campanian cav. and pezzoi brutii) but I was wondering if it would be historically accurate to have armies composed entirely of allied units, commanded by a mercenary general recruited from their region? Cheers

P.S.-on the subject of mercenary generals some reason in Taras the description for my final Government Type 4 barracks doesn't say anything about recruiting a general! Is this a bug or is there some reason I can't recruit a general there? Cheers again

I've been using mercenary generals and regionally-recruited + mercenary armies to roleplay Pergamon in my campaign. It's had a client ruler there and my legions haven't set foot in Asia Minor since my war with the Seleukids.

I also used an "allied" army in one of my wars with KH/Makedonia, and indeed I had an Italian general marauding around Africa in my Third Punic War.

Should be able to recruit mercenary generals in Taras, I've been doing so for years.
It began on seven hills - an EB 1.1 Romani AAR with historical house-rules (now ceased)
Heirs to Lysimachos - an EB 1.1 Epeiros-as-Pergamon AAR with semi-historical houserules (now ceased)
    Philetairos' Gift - a second EB 1.1 Epeiros-as-Pergamon AAR
