Hello all, I am one of those guys that changes faction names md-game, if they get out of their original homelands or builds up into a huge empire as well as changing their color. So I was wondering if any of you could translate these names into the corresponding faction's language;
1) Parthian Empire - Arshkanig
2) Armenian Empire - ?
3) Greek-Saka Empire - ?
4) Great Gaul - Vergalla
5) Great Iberians - Vereberom
6) Carthaginian Empire - ?
7) Germanic Confederancy - ?
This is more to represent a facton that has grown in considerable size and becomes more like a unified nation than just a single ruling tribe.
Thanks in advance!
I don't think that Carthage would change it's name. Just as the Romans never diverted from SPQR, although they no longer were a city state. The reason is that the Karthadastim empire is totally focused on Carthage, since it is a city-state, similar to Rome (though very different of course). Empire without Carthage - no empire, just Punic colonies. Or do you change SPQR to Imperium Romanum?
Maion Maroneios 15:37 06-16-2008
Yep, I change it to Imperivm Romanorvm (in theory), although I've never gotten that far in my campaigns.

Faction names can be changed?
Yes, they can.
Edit the descr_sm_factions file in your /data folder.
Maion Maroneios 16:00 06-16-2008
Actually, it's in data/text folder. The text file is called expanded_bi
Yes, Maion is correct. If you want to change the Colour of the faction, go to the descr_sm_factions file.

Sooo, does anyone have the knowledge to enlighten me with these translations, or should I give up my hopes?
JackAlexander 20:02 06-18-2008
not really about the topic, but is there any way to change factions in the mid-game?
Maion Maroneios 20:23 06-18-2008
Go to data/text and edit the expanded_bi.txt lines.

The Gallic Confederation would be something like "Vergalla", right?

What's the correct form of address for something belonging to the Kingdom of Pergamon? Is it Pergamene? That's what I was using conversationally in my other game, but if I'm going to change the name of my faction it should be right, really. Since I'm
playing as Pergamon (well a new Hellenic League led by them for now), I could do with changing things to fit better.
Should the faction name be Pergamon, or Kingdom of Pergamon?

If you check Stele 6 for EB II you should be able to get a bunch of info on possible names for Pergamon and other tidbits.

Me needie Armenian Empire.
I suppose they would revert to some sort of Persian thing, maybe Yervaduni Dynasty.

I believe it means "Great Gaul", literally. It's a good idea when you've killed off the Arverni [or Aedui] and you have united all of Gaul.
Maion Maroneios 18:30 06-19-2008
Ok, I thought about this from some EB quote I think from a statue of Dis, IIRC, but I wasn't 100% sure.

That hypothesis was so ludicrous in real history, that there wasn't ever a name to be invented.
We could go from the same situation as Gaul although. I'm no expert in either Lusitan inscriptions, nor in Celtic language, but since Lusitannians were a Celtic-influenced, people, we can make the same "name"
Since I suppose Ver means "Great" in Celtic, normally in Lusitan, some Celtic words lose their first letters, so we can use the same word to express the Iberian Confederacy, with the replacement of Galla with Eber, since it is believed the the river Ebros was originally named after the people of the region, which was generalized to Iberia.
So, I'd do something like
Ereberom, supposedly meaning Great Iberians. The Lusitan plural is also different. While Celtics used "Os", Lusitans used "Om". Of course all this is made from a person which knows little about the Lusitan language, which is a poorly known language to begin with.
EDIT: Lusitans don't lose the first indo-european letters, Celtics do. I'd propose
Vereberom, then.

I assumed that one gallic tribe had wiped out the other one, thus creating "Great Gaul" ;)

I've changed my faction name:
But what colour, if any should I change it to?

Something that appears distinctly on a zoomed out mini-map.
Maion Maroneios 18:04 06-20-2008
Maybesome blue colour like presented in EBII's Stele#6? Just google for "rgb color values" and change the faction't primary colors in descr_sf_factions.txt.
QuintusSertorius 18:16 06-20-2008
How does that blue contrast with the sea on the campaign map?
And how similar to the Hayasdan or Baktrian colours?
More like a dark purple, almost indigo, is what pergamon's faction color is according to stele 6.
Swordmaster 18:21 06-20-2008
Some bright yellow/orangeish colour should do.

Ooh, sounds nice. That's a gorgeous colour.
I really need to go and have a proper read of that Stele.

Ew, I don't want Dutch Pergamon!
(No offense to our Nederlands posters intended there)

New name, new colour, but my agents are still green. Any ideas?
I like the blue-purple (it's Slate Blue 3) a lot.
No Netherlands? Then it's "Vive la France Royal!" In other words, I don't know how to mess with 'em colors.
