    Default SUPER GENERAL!!!

Playing last night as the Julii (M/M) and thing were going well. I had conqured the Po valley and recently assaulted and taken Massala. ( I had taken a break from BI as I still can't get used to the units and wanted some fun last night).

Obvioulsy a strong force at the bridge just west of Masalla can stop some pretty strong Gaulish attacks.

So two generals, 6 Hastatii, 2 Triarii and the starting unit of archers were put on guard there.

Three turns later and a full stack of Gauls decided that they wanted back into the Po valley.

No new strategy for me just put three units of Hastatii on either side with fire at will on and the two units of Triarii at the end of the "tunnel". The archers I put off to one side of the bridge so they could attack with out having to shoot over my troops. they were also put on "fire arrows" to maximise the possibility of a chain rout.

The generals were put on either side of the Hastatii lines.

The gauls attacked across the bridge and their general was near the front. He hit the two units of Triarii and I was concerned he might break out (with me having no reserves) so I charged both generals in at that point.

Juyst as I did that - Boom. Their general bit the dust and three units around him routed. I immediatly changed where the generals were attacking to charge along the bridge and hope that the routing would become addictive.

    It did.

    I massacared them all...

Obviously nothing new there as many of you would have done this type of battle 1000 times over.

The amazing thing was that one general was in front on the bridge and thus got the majority of the kills. Of the 2,200 dead gauls on the battlefield 1584 were by my main general!!! He gained 5 levels of experiance going to a double silver chevron in ONE BATTLE.

I did not even know that it was happening and it was pretty chaotic! Anyone else have a killing machine story like this?

My cavalry and generals always take all the experience points. I usually have gold chevron cavalry while the infantry are still on one or two bronze.

In M2TW, I had a tiny army of Town Militia, which were getting massacred in the town centre by a full stack of enemy Sergeants etc. So my General charged round the back through a side street and caused a chain rout, killing the entire enemy stack and getting on to gold experience.

Thats awesome. It is a good feeling to know that one of your generals is pulling his weight.
Often mine to nothing but charge in one the rout has started and try and get some cheap kills - I am often loathe to commit generals as they can lose one member of the unit (the general) and then whole unit gets disbanded - still easy come easy go.

I do find it funny though that the general of mine that went straight to two silver chevrons but was still a only a two star general.

I had a Thracian faction leader with full stars and +16 hitpoints. He had a couple of 1,000+ kill battles but they were mostly against the Brutii who were churning out militia by the thousands.
Why did the chicken cross the road?

So that its subjects will view it with admiration, as a chicken which has the daring and courage to boldly cross the road,
but also with fear, for whom among them has the strength to contend with such a paragon of avian virtue? In such a manner is the princely
    chicken's dominion maintained. ~Machiavelli

Yeah, me too! As the Greeks, I especially love militia cavalry..... they're mediocre fighters, but they run really fast.

Other than that my fighting generals also normally get up to silver chevrons before buying the latifunda or retiring.

My starting Macedonian faction leader Antigonus had 9 chevrons and countless hitpoints. He lived into is 90s until I decided to get rid of him because of my super-talented faction heir, and sent him on a suicide mission with 3 units to Italy. A faction leader with 9 chevrons is almost invincible, I used him to defeated hordes of Brutii army.

Gotta love a point in the late-game where you accumulate enough useless family members to form a half stack, and then use them to cleave a path of destruction versus enemy stacks. I usually run out of patience long before that point though.....
