    Default Diablo 3

Well, at this point, Diablo 3 has not been officially announced, but there has been lots of evidence that supports its current development by the company.

There is also rumors that it might be officially announced on June 28th in Paris.

Here are some links Diablo 3 History Diabloii.Net Diablo 3 Forum

I really think that this might be it since Blizzard has already made or is officially making sequels or spiritual ones at least to its Starcraft and Warcraft franchises leaving just Diablo left of the three powerhouses.

    Edit:
Okay...I was really stupid and posted this in the Gameroom. Could a moderator please move this to the Arena?

I believe it was, in a roundabout way. More confirmation will come soon, I am sure.

I hope it keeps true to D2 though, I love that game.

I really hope D3 retains the Hardcore mode (option at character creation to make death permanent.) However, there are a lot of mechanics in D2 that are just outdated. Rigid skill trees, potion guzzling need to be revamped. More active approach to combat - less auto-attacking, more skill use with a wider variety and amount of viable skills. Some limits to Town Portals (no TP's during boss fights like in Titan Quest, or boss "reset" like in the Ancients battle) and teleportation.

By the way, D2 ladders are reset today. Tempting... very tempting...

It also sounds like it's going to be an MMO. Blarg, that killed it for me.

I will also be disappointed if it's an MMO. I understand that MMOs are big money makers now (when they are successful) but I don't have enough time for them and I miss Blizzard games. They know how to make a good, entertaining product that's polished, balanced, and largely bug-free.

Well, that would kind of kill it for me, but I highly doubt Blizzard will do so. They already have WoW and creating another extremely polished MMORPG will just compete with WoW and potentially decrease the number of people playing it.

That being said, Battle.net will probably still be a huge attraction of the game. For Diablo II and its expansion, playing it through single player was fine and you could have alot of fun, but you could never get any of the really awesome stuff or PvP unless you go onto B.net. Essentially, DII was sort of like a MMORPG. Even now basically a decade after its release, there are still plenty of people playing it online.

    Uhuh. Source?

Nothing I've seen so far points in the direction of an MMO. A more believable direction would be similar to Starcraft 2 - basically a rehash of the original game with some modernised elements.

God, I hope it won't be MMO. It's one of the few genres of games I really can't see the point of. The whole point of Diablo was mindless rapid-clicking choppy fun you could play for an hour or two evey now and then when you were bored of proper games and just wanted to do some mindless killing, not a game requiring a monthly subscription fee and an investment of hundreds of hours to get anywhere. It was an RPG-lite for those of us who can't really be bothered with the effort required to play a proper RPG.

Well, something is going to get announced.

Get over to blizzard.com and there is a splash screen which is similar to what happened right before Starcraft 2 is announced.

Right now it is not known whether Blizzard will be anouncing the already accepted WoW expansion the Wrath of the Lich King or a next gen MMO that it is making or Diablo III. I suspect it will be revealed anyways at the WWI in Paris

WotLK won't be the one announced for sure, everyone's known about it since last year.

Sorry I didn't post to support my MMO statement. Spent some time looking for what I was basing that on, can't find them anymore. IIRC, there were a few articles on some of the better informed gaming sites pointing to some job openings at Blizzard that dealt with a "new MMO", or something to that effect. There was also the few rumblings about what Blizz was doing with Diablo next, so it made sense.

As for them NOT making it an MMO, why the hell not? Mind you MMO != MMORPG, Guild Wars is also an MMO. There's enough Blizzard fanboys out there and they have enough of a reputation that they could pull it off with D3 and WoW both being online only, and people will still snap it up like hotcakes.

With this week's speculation over the Blizzard teasers, more and more reports in the media, and numerous tips coming direct us at IncGamers from reliable inside industry sources in the past 24 hours, we now have confirmation from inside sources to say that Diablo 3 WILL be announced on Saturday at WWI Paris 2008.

With that in mind, we would like to invite Diabloii.net readers to submit their questions for us to ask Blizzard.

This is extremely exciting for all of us here at Diabloii.net. For the past 10 years we have been supporting the Diablo community and to have something completely new to sink our teeth into is fantastic. We will be at the show on Saturday for the announcement and also the press conference which is directly after, so expect reports from the show floor live, interviews and much more.

Anyone seen the new splash page on blizzard.eu? The eyes could be from any of the 3 blizzard franchises...

Very very very exciting new right now.

Apparently, at the opening ceremonies of the WWI at Paris about a few hours ago, Diablo III has been officially announced!!!!!

    Edit:

There was a game demo like what they did for Starcraft II shown. The game is in 3d with an isometric view. A barbarian was shown using whirlwind and leap attack. There is a new class coming out which is called the witch-doctor that can summon minions/mind control his enemies among other things.

    Edit:

Finally, here is a picture from a teaser video

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Check out the awesome video that has now replaced the splash screen

LOL, 3rd Edit in like 30 minutes

Link to official Diablo III page which is up on blizzard.com now

It contains a teaser as well as the gameplay video shown at the Paris WWI

I dunno... I'm sure Blizzard will sell a bazillion copies, but it's not grabbing my interest this time around (I played 1 and 2, mostly in co-op LAN mode with my S.O.). I like my games to have at least some minimal tactics in the combat, like use of terrain and doorways. The gameplay video with the barbarian whirling around through the zombies looked like just a mindless, hyperactive click-fest.

    Click-click-click-click-(special move)-click-click-click-(special move)-click-click-click-(special move)-click-click-click-(special move)-click-click-click-(special move)...

That's not my kind of game. But maybe it's more interesting than it looks from the video. Or maybe I'm just getting too old for this type of game. I'll try a demo if one is released, but I'm for sure not pre-ordering or buying it on release, without knowing more about the gameplay.

You have played Diablo before, right? That's kind of the point, mindless clicky choppy fun. It's for taking a break from proper grown-up games to brainlessly hack at some zombies.

Isometric view and all that? Huh? What? How dares Blizzard go against that trend of bringing RPG's in first or third person? What the hell is going on? If I remember it right all those RPG's with isometric views in the 90's were garbage, right? And now seriously, isn't so that the isometric view is "gay"?

True, but it looks to me like the combat speed has been ramped up a few more notches from the prior games, and those were already pretty hectic. And my fingers aren't as fast as they used to be.

Then again, maybe you don't have to blast through each dungeon room as fast as the guy was doing in the gameplay video.
