I believe it was, in a roundabout way. More confirmation will come soon, I am sure.
I hope it keeps true to D2 though, I love that game.
I really hope D3 retains the Hardcore mode (option at character creation to make death permanent.) However, there are a lot of mechanics in D2 that are just outdated. Rigid skill trees, potion guzzling need to be revamped. More active approach to combat - less auto-attacking, more skill use with a wider variety and amount of viable skills. Some limits to Town Portals (no TP's during boss fights like in Titan Quest, or boss "reset" like in the Ancients battle) and teleportation.
By the way, D2 ladders are reset today. Tempting... very tempting...![]()

I will also be disappointed if it's an MMO. I understand that MMOs are big money makers now (when they are successful) but I don't have enough time for them and I miss Blizzard games. They know how to make a good, entertaining product that's polished, balanced, and largely bug-free.
Well, that would kind of kill it for me, but I highly doubt Blizzard will do so. They already have WoW and creating another extremely polished MMORPG will just compete with WoW and potentially decrease the number of people playing it.
That being said, Battle.net will probably still be a huge attraction of the game. For Diablo II and its expansion, playing it through single player was fine and you could have alot of fun, but you could never get any of the really awesome stuff or PvP unless you go onto B.net. Essentially, DII was sort of like a MMORPG. Even now basically a decade after its release, there are still plenty of people playing it online.
"I do not know what I may appear to the world; but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me." - Issac Newton
Uhuh. Source? It also sounds like it's going to be an MMO.
Nothing I've seen so far points in the direction of an MMO. A more believable direction would be similar to Starcraft 2 - basically a rehash of the original game with some modernised elements.
God, I hope it won't be MMO. It's one of the few genres of games I really can't see the point of. The whole point of Diablo was mindless rapid-clicking choppy fun you could play for an hour or two evey now and then when you were bored of proper games and just wanted to do some mindless killing, not a game requiring a monthly subscription fee and an investment of hundreds of hours to get anywhere. It was an RPG-lite for those of us who can't really be bothered with the effort required to play a proper RPG.
