    Default Re: Hmmmmm

I remember attacking one of those larger castles, and my enemy ended up with less kills than me, since most of his were from ballista and arrow towers. However, he still won the battle, since my poor guys were steadily depleted while he stood his ground with his spear units, allowing his towers to do their thing. hehe

T1: I remember some of the players wondering how they could have gotten beaten by a team with me as one of its members. Especially after I charged their frontlines by myself and routed so easily. hehe

Though, after awhile, some learned not to pursue when my men routed, and not leaving their nice defensive positions to avoid being slaughtered by my waiting teammates. Those who chose to believe my routing was not part of an overall plan, normally found out they were mistaken in their beliefs. I never got many kills, but my routed men normally could be rounded up and used to help cover my teammates' flanks and distract enemy units long enough for my teammates to do their thing.

Those type of tactics don't work in the current game engine unfortunately. I think it is because the morale/fighting penalties from fatigue and other factors like height, being outnumbered, etc were modified to not have as great an effect on the outcome of the battles as they used to. Which is another reason I didn't play M2TW MP as much as Shogun and MTW1.

I hope this next game engine brings back those factors to increase the learning difficulty for advanced players, while keeping the game mechanics simple so new players will stick around long enough to learn the nuances of the game. Experience meant a lot in Shogun and MTW1, while unit selection meant more in RTW and M2TW.

Now that CA has a much larger market of experienced players, they could increase the difficulty level up to the old Shogun/MTW1 levels with no detrimental effect.
