Help with "Winamp"

I'm trying to use Winamp as a video viewer, which from all indications it seems perfectly capable of doing. The problem is, whenever I try to play a video file in Winamp, it doesn't show up on the video screen; all I get is the audio. The Winamp help page also seems to be nonexistent. I'm using version 5.33, if that helps.

Edit: I think I found the problem... it works with windows movies, so there must be some compatibility issues with my other movies, which are basically all mp4's. Anyone know of a solution?

Sounds like you need to load up on codecs. And why are you insisting on using WinAmp as your primary video player? That makes low to no sense. If you want a media player that can eat anything you throw at it, try VLC Media Player. It's free, like the best things in life ...

Seriously, if VLC can't play it, that means the file is damaged. Most robust video player I've ever been around.

Do what Our Lord Prosimian suggested, install the k-lite codec pack. Reboot, trying playing the file with Media Player Classic, it should work. If it doesn't work, try Windows Media Player, then Winamp, then VLC. Codec pack reinstalls general fix most problems like this, unless the file is indeed damaged as His Apeness has suggested.

Well, VLC doesn't have a playlist or I would have used that. That, and I didn't know you could play mp4 videos in WMP.

I am very technologically ignorant.

Edit: also, it turns out there's a difference between mp4's and mpeg-4's...

So at this stage, what exactly have you done, and under what conditions (in what programs) have you got these videos to work?
