"Always wondered what a game like RTW would be like if ALL factions were controlled by human players? Ever wanted to match your wits and cunning against a whole Mediterranean world of rivals?

If so, join us! In our forum game, you will find some features of EB - the same factions, similar unit trees for these, a strategic map with provinces and province capitals, on which you move your troops towards battles in a turn-based game. Those battles are resolved by human admins, based on your plans and orders - and a complex battle system including factors like formation, morale, discipline, experience, terrain, manouvres like charging, harassing, flanking and rear attacks...

Will you be the one to outshine Alexandros? Will you be the one to conquer mighty Rome, to loot rich Kart-Hadast, to take shining Alexandreia as your own? Or will you fall and be forgotten on the way? There is only one way to find out..."

actually, most factions are already taken.

    The Free Factions are...

    Casse, Auedi, Macedonia and Eperious.

The Casse have much of Modern day England. The Auedi have done well in the Cival War but Rome looms large. Macedonia sacked Sparta and is doing well. And Eperious has lost Taras and gained nothing.

Also Pergamon is a NPC at the moment but it could be claimed.

Is there any way to see a current map of the situation? This sounds interesting.

It's just the like the normal EB map and most of the factions had there original starting position we are at turn 5 right now (4 turn per year)

And it's played with FOW so the answer to your question is sadly no

And i have to say that it is quite difficult because fooling your enemy is very popular

    as well the diplomatic discussions

If you're into strategy, forums and spend a reasonable amount of time online, these games really are for you. They are always in development, the current 'Rome' game based on the forum's favourite mod (EB :)) is our most advanced to date and is progressing well. But we are constantly refining and polishing our systems to make the games run smoother (with less admin toils!) and Roma Bella Totalum 2 is already in the works. Getting involved now would be a good time not only to enjoy the current game, but to give your ideas for the games in development and therefore, reserving a faction for the future! There are some decent factions available right now, and we are always in a position to expand the NPC factions to make room for new players.

Forumgaming is a good little community too, so pop in and check us out and we'll try make you enjoy it as much as possible

we're always on the look out for members with good tech heads to help us refine the playing system too, and believe me, join us and you will be revered as gods

Bleh, I can consider myself an expert in these types of Forum RPG gaming, but as I had said in the former thread, I think the game lacks many rules and mechanics. Leaving most of the work to the admins leads to complains about bias games, favouring some players in detriment of other players, changing rules to suit preferences, etc. I've seen many sims (Forum Simulations) like that. I defend a game whose bases are founded upon mechanics (That'd require, for example, developing full formulae to battles. How would units attack level affect the opposing side, when would morale sink, etc.) In reality, it would lead to much more real battle scenes than the original RTW (And thus EB), such as the possibility of raiding the supply convoys of the opposing armies, the ability to actually create viable ambushes (ambushes which when sprung up, catch the opponent from all sides), moats, etc. You name it. I might still try it though.

The players aren't playing the game, per se. They just give out instructions in the forum, the admins run some calculations/do what they think it's the best outcome and the game advances.

See the map as a huge check board thousands of squares you can move your army's around and split and merge units as you like only battles are done by the administrators but you can give instructions how you want to setup your army and the behavior of your units etc. (just like a real general)

    could i have the casse?
you have to check that and talk to Arakano

Well, you are wrong AND right, in a way. The players DO play the game: there is an interactive map on which to move your forces, money can be spent on recruitment once a year or on diplomatic deals... all possible without any admin interference. All battles, however, are run by admins. There are stats for every unit, and a Battleguide with rules for how to run battles, and all is based on these two formulas, so to speak.

As for admins being accused of favourism etc: hasn't really happened yet. Also, every battle, after being run, is shown to all other admins to double-check for mistakes or wrong decisions etc. If players still have concerns about them, they can of course always address the admins and ask for a reconsideration. We are generally trying to make players enjoy the game, obviously, as elsewise no game would exist at all. ;)

Besides battles, players have to consult me only on matters of city expansion, as the engine does not support this independently, I am afraid. And on any idea not covered by the rules - we try to be flexible, but also fair to all.

@Celtic_Punk: I see no reason why not. The Casse are freely available at the moment. :)

And yes, Baktria is also available. It is of yet still firmly allied to Seleukeia, and has a strong army, but is also involved in the war of Seleukeia for domination of Asia.

I see... I was saying that based on the thought that there was no interactive map, since I never saw such a feature (Actually I did, but never really played the said game) in a Sim.

So what factions are free? I'd try Macedonia if it's free. I never played the Seleucids for being too damn big.

EDIT: ...It's wierd the staff uses the Announcements Thread to chat.
