Default North Korea hands over Nuclear declaration

Well, North Korea has handed over a nuclear report to the UN. Is this the first steps of North Korea legitimately entering into the world community? Perhaps the beginnings of North Korea pulling out of its shell, and dousing its citizens into a world culture? Or will this end up for naught?

It will not end up for naught but it will be a slow and painful process. North Korea would certainly want to "cash in" this decision, so it depends what will US offer for further steps that are supposed to be taken on the issue. Mutual mistrust and complicated international negotiations will ensure that this goes back and forth and drags on for some time. But it is definitely a step in the right direction and I believe North Korea will open up, little by little.

Technically, they didn't hand it over to the UN, but rather to China, the closest thing they have to an ally among the "Group of Six" (China, Japan, Russia, North and South Korea and the United States).

Although: point taken that Korea started out as a UN show in the 40's/50's.

The process is more complex then many would want to believe. North Korea uses its nuclear technology to blackmail every other nation into providing them the needed resources to feed, house, and provide fuel to keep them alive during the winter. Now in another thread someone stated that the United States should withdraw completely from South Korea. If one looks how North Korea deals with the rest of the world one quickly see's why the United States maintains some presence on the pennisula versus just withdrawing completely.

Now the next round - which will be in about 3 monthes - Sept/October will deal with the United States and South Korea provided some much needed supplies to North Korea, to get them through another winter.

Its a slow process, but North Korea is becoming more open every year, when the last of the hard liners finally are removed from power and the crazy son of the crazy dead old man dies, I think North Korea will finally truely try to come back into the world community.

Until then this recent declaration show how important the six party talks have become, and how it is getting China to apply the necessary pressure to sway North Korea.
O well, seems like 'some' people decide to ruin a perfectly valid threat. Nice going guys... doc bean

World attention is focused on Zimbabwe " we must be strong" / "end the suffering of the poor people". So then N. Korea decides to create a stir.

More fun and games going round in circles. I doubt anything concrete will emerge besides getting them more aid for doing practically nothing.
