    Talking Post your desktop thread

On other forums, a topic like this seems almost obligatory, yet we haven't had one for about 3 years. The last one (and it's related topic, 'post your desk') both sank into obscurity after they descended into nothing but arguing with Kapo about Nazi's. It's a shame really, because it can be good fun to look back on our old desktops - it's almost like a time capsule.

So, let's start again. Click the thumbnail!

As you can probably guess, i'm heavily into pimping out my desktop. Looks pretty good i think.

My desktop's fairly dull and default. I'm a bit of a computer minimalist. Nothing that doesn't fit in with the design and colour scheme of the the desktop icons cannot go on the desktop, and must go on the start menu (which is rigorously organised into a set of categories and sub-categories to make finding things easier).

I generally use self-taken photographs for wallpapers, although I occasionally use something which I liked on the internet or elsewhere.

    My current desktop:

It's from Lanzarotte in the Canary Islands. It's not in the Mediterranean, but it has a Mediterranean climate, although possibly a little drier (the gardens there need a lot of watering with sprinklers and the suchlike). That photo was taken from the path on the front of Puerto del Carmen (opposite the set of three "Lani's" restaurants in a row).

    Thanks BTW

    Pretty cool destop there Mikeus.

Here's my current desktop, after a while I usually delete most of the shortcuts on my desktop since it starts getting quite cluttered which ends up very annoying. I keep most of my modding files on the desktop too, just so I remember to actually mod.

Not exactly the point of this thread, but I'm curious, what's the 'Victoria' icon on Rythmic's desktop?

I finally found some stuff i'd been looking for, which meant i could do away with all my shortcuts and bask in the glory of my shiny desktop.

You play the Xtended mod for X3? I'm thinking about reinstalling for that, it's been about a year since I played, looks like they haven't gone beyond the 0.7.3 version yet.

Here's mine. It is one of the loading screens from Europa Universalis III and I really think it is one of the best loading screens from any of the Paradox games. Also lots of browns and dark colours means that it doesn't hurt my eyes to look at.

XP running numerous swanky programs. OTT = over the top. My theme currently is a windowblinds theme called '5imple'. Due to my taskbar now being hidden, you only see it when looking at something in a window.

Really? The added synergies, imo, really added a whole new layer to the game. Plus, the game is much harder so even if you have a fully decked out enigmadin, a nasty modded frenzytaur pack can still take you out in like 3 hits.

I forgot which version of the Xtended mod I had, but I basically stopped playing since it took me forever to even get close to how big my empire was in my original game. I had a fully functional headquarter + materials +weapons complex producing Ls every 45 minutes to fill up my fleet of 5 carriers and 15 destroyers, but all of that was, alas, gone when I installed the mod and I never found the incentive to spend all of the time getting everything again

Well I don't quite get the point of pimping my desktop, I don't spend that much time there after all, so it's pretty messy and not much of a spectacular sight.

Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

If anyone thinks that manga.py actually is me reading manga, then think again. It's a script that I sent to a manga reading friend of mine and that successfully printed a thousand word documents on his desktop. I later tested the script on myself with 40 K documents; but it took forever, so I just halted it at 30 K. However, loading the desktop now took forever, so I had to change user in order to get rid of them all.

I would like to know where you acquired that background picture Rythmic, looks very nice.
As for mine, note the awesomeness that is Windows 2000:

I make a lot of my backgrounds using GIMP, much more satisfying to see it after a nice CTD. Unfortunately I didn't make this one though, I tried to make a starfield but eventually I just google'd it and set it as my background.
