Thread: Starting a war

    Default Starting a war

I am playing Eperiots and facing off against the yellow death. I have noticed that they have managed to become allies with everyone including Baktria and Cathage (who are now powerhouses and share borders with them).

Any ideas about how to get them to fight each other. I want a second front to open up on them so that I am not fighting them by myself.

Also I am not too keen on using force diplomacy to get around the inadequencies of the RTW system (it is too easy to let it get out of control).

    Default AW: Starting a war

Conquer a province deep in the heart of the Ptolemaic empire (suicide mission anyone?), and gift it to Carthage or Baktria, alongside some 10,000 mnai. I'd suggest for example Paraitonion to the Baktrians. It's quite sure that the Paraitonioi will loath their new Baktrian overlords (the poor Paraitonioi never even heard of a state named Baktria, gah) and rebel back to the Ptolemaioi. Then you'll have your war.

I did that once as Macedon with Bastarnolandam, which I gifted to the Carthies, whom I feared could open a new front. Bastarnolandam rebelled, and they went to war with the Sweboz, but unfortunately there was no effect, they just agreed to a ceasefire immidiately. I didn't have the time to try it another time.

One thing to keep in mind is that the game is hardcoded to give the player a challenge. One of the AI hardcodings is that they will not want to fight a faction that is at war with the player, no matter the diplomatic standings.

I always find that when I try to do a gift like that to start a war the the AI claims that it is too much and refuses to accept it - thoughts about how to get around this?

I had a thread on this very topic a while back.
It began on seven hills - an EB 1.1 Romani AAR with historical house-rules (now ceased)
Heirs to Lysimachos - an EB 1.1 Epeiros-as-Pergamon AAR with semi-historical houserules (now ceased)
    Philetairos' Gift - a second EB 1.1 Epeiros-as-Pergamon AAR
