Ok, I am playing as Hungary. My 1st King just died and His Son took over. His influence is only 6 or 7. Even after I took 3 Polish proviences.

So, how do I gain influence?

    1. Do not lose for the battles
    2. Use your money for farms or church etc...

There is other things. But I believe is 1 and 2.

Keeping alliances also helps to raise influence within future heirs. One good reason to not break alliances (nobody will trust you if you break too many).
Today is a fine day for war.

You sure about this? I break every alliance I possibly can, and every one of my kings has been max influence.

I think winning battles is the main determinant.

only 6 or 7... you poor poor man. here let my 2 influence, drunk, 11 toed, good running, gluttonous, bad health king come and comfort you.

if i had a 6-7 influence king you here the celebrations on the moon.

for me it is strange, i never lose battles but i still end up with bad influence. maybe it is because i keep my king in his capital and not at the front. the only time i have ever got good influence is when my king fights the battles personaly.

but with such a crap king as mine, im scared to let him carry the the archers arrows let alone lead the battle.

Winning the battle will raise the King influence even when the King does not directly involve. The King influence may go up faster if he leads the battle himself. Related to this, if he lose the land that he just capture, his influence won't go up or go up very slow. So make sure that you don't lose land.

Raid: also relate to the above, raid victories will not raise influence (or at least very slow). Raid means that you attack and capture an enemy province. You pillage then leave the province to the enemy to recapture. This kind of victory won't raise the influence since your King loses land to his enemy.

Alliance: don't brake alliance if you don't have to. Don't attack your ally.

my question is though, is there a 1 to 1 ratio between land lost and land gained for influence?

I've often suspected that while raiding, (in which I conquer, then lose a great number of provinces), I'm losing influence because territory losses might be weighted more heavily then victories.

I'm not sure this is the case, but in some ways it makes sense to me. (obviously increasing your empires land size means that your influence should increase... but if you're losing land this shows weakness, and if you're gaining/losing land this still shows weakness, as you have not the strength to protect what is yours)

Which, given my last wording, makes me wonder if getting your boys assassinated lowers influence, (since it does say that the "death of one of your rival's agents strikes a double blow" the second being that he has not the strength to protect that which is his.... eh? eh? ya I think so!

i would nt put to much stake in what the pop up information says. for example if your gen has 4-5 stars of dread it says "your enemy trully knows fear when he sees your banner on the battlefield"

so it would be logical to assume that dread causes a negative effect to enemy morale on the battlefield right ? wrong. dread has no effect on battlefield according to devs.

its kinda annoying, there are so many of these little issues that hold the game back from being magnificant as opposed to meerly a great game.

Xo concurs... except that I'd substitute revolutionary for magnificent, and mediocre for great...

I guess i attach more significance to the little details, (but then, without then the little details are everything in an in depth strategy game, they're all it really has to stand itself apart, imo)

Every successful Crusade increases your king's influence on one crown. Every lost Crusade reduces your influence and loyalty of your generals and heirs.
If you help your allies to reconquer the province or remove the siege yoer influence increases too.
BTW having 6-7 crowns of influence - there is no point in worring about the situation. That's really good and rather enough.

Ok, then why won't anyone marry any of my Daughters? Have like 7 of them, but no faction will accept them. I thought it was based on my King's Influence. I usually shop them around to different factions, but end up marring them to a general before they become Spinsters.

The same is true for trying to get a wife for my son.

    thanks
