I will try it out. I did not realise I had disabled the trivial script. How can I check to make sure it is working?

Well if you start a custom campaign in "Single Player" and you shouldn't be able to recruit factional troops (like legionaries when SPQR), and when you use the Multi Player script you should be able to use them
