Default Did anyone have problems with a guy called Satres???

Does anyone knows who Satres is?

I started a romani campaign and, after conquering Massalia and being at peace with Carthage I decided to go for Luvavoaeta...now as i was getting there this Eleutheroi full stack shows up led by this Satres guy. Besides the celtic spearmen etc etc there were also some neeto's and a solduro's unit...and most of this army has 2 silver chevron.

Now this guys are much more experienced and homogeneous than my army. I decided to let him attack me and i won even though i lost alot of men, but i basically vanquished them and killed Satres.

Having dealt with this guy i decided to siege Lovavoaeta. As the turn ends i get attacked by.... SATRES and his double silver chevron muchachos again!!!!

So now i have mr. "came back from the dead" and the oppidum's garrison in a total of over 5000 men against my 1700 something. It went of course the wrong way not to mention that i had to fight this in the middle of a huge forest covering the whole battle map and he overwhelming power of the enemy.
I lost my army led my faction leader and another general.

As i only had one standing army it took me a few turns to gather another army and as i am getting close to Luvavoaeta...Satres is there again and his army is fully replennished (they suffered around 1500 casualties on the last battle). I try diplomacy on the city...and it worked . I had some money and i bribed them successfully.

So now....i have this "übber" Eleutheroi full stack creeping on my territory...so my question is...
    WHO IS THIS SATRES GUY!?!?!?

He's a part of the scripted "Central European Defense" which prevents the AI factions from going into ahistorical areas. Like a German conquest of Greece in 260BC, or the Sauromatae reaching the Atlantic.

If you want to take out Satres, you have to kill him and besieged Iuvavoeta in the same turn. Otherwise he respawns with his full super-stack again.

I believe so, once you hold it he shouldn't re-appear once dead.

Just out of curiosity... would it be possible to bribe Sartes?

Or is he one of those annoying unbribable generals?

i have bribed satres 3 times in my current Aedui campaign. it´s easy if your diplomat is high level enough. but it costs tons of money, so i had to cheat a little to do so. and the best is: in the next round you´ll have another full stack elite army you can bribe! and this won´t stop until you take the corresponding cities.

but in turn you get heaps of 2 silver chevron units, especially the Nietos and alpine phalanxes that he fields are a very valuable addition to any gallic army, especially if you want to contain or conquer rome. alpine phalanxes rock at defensive bridge battles!

and if you should manage to bribe Satres himself and keep him, then you´ll probably get hold of a super general that is able to conquer almost everything and win every defensivve battle easily.

Never successfully bribed Satres, but I did get the defender of Luguow to join me. He then joined my army besieging his former capital and his lugiawhassit swordsmen led the assault. The guy got +2 command for fighting Roman scum and +2 for fighting Carthy scum, so he was a great addition to my family and stayed with me until he died in battle against a Ptoly invasion of Italy ~20 years later.
Now THAT was a fun battle. . .

Besiege the city and wait for the loitering rebel general to attack you. When he attacks you, the city garrison will queue up as reinforcements. Launch the battle map and pray for two things:

    1) That the reinforcements won't show up in time, or not at all. (a besieged garrison will be destroyed if defeated)
    2) That you don't get an post-battle CTD
