    Default Possible to play Iberia??

    Hello!!

Can someone tell me please If the iberians are included as a controllable faction? I know they are more polis than a country, but will be cool to have some iberian units.
If they are not playable, can I purchase Iberian units If I control Iberia?

Not sure how new you are to EB, but if you are talking about the Vanilla EB main campaign Lusitania is the Spanish faction, and along with all the factions in EB is playable from the beginning. They have their own unique units and buildings, but are quite a difficult strating faction. Iberia itself is not a faction, as very rightly in my opinion the EB team decided it would be ahistorical to show the whole penisula as a single united front, as they were typically a lot of different warring tribes with no single superpower. Lusitania was chosen i believe beacuase they were one of the most warlike tribes in Iberia and were active against the Roman incursion. Hope this clears things up a bit for ya

I'm more thinking in custom battles. So no Balearic slingers, Noble cavalry or infantrymen with falcatas?? What a pity Iberian are considered the toughest mercenaries of the ancient world, Carthago mixed them with the gauls so they can control them

Um, yeah you can. Depending on the faction you choose to play with. Carthage gets the largest variety of Iberian troops (other than Lusitania itself).

Remember, if you want to play a custom or multiplayer battle to use the multiplayer EB shortcut, not the singleplayer shortcut.

In EB, the Baleares islands (where your favorite slingers come from) are under the provisional colonial authority of Qarthadast (Carthage).

Why do you think they aren't in the game? I mean, that's a very strange assertion you make, especially since it's all on the EB website for you to read up, in addition of course to the possibility of just playing the game and find out whether they are in.

I think Stratos has absolutely no clue about EB ;)

Iberia is not included as Iberia, EB team picked out the Lusitania as one of the more powerful tribes to have a playable faction on the Iberian peninsula (you know, the good old faction limit).

Iberia was far from united in the timeframe EB plays in, the Southern coast is held by the QartHadast as well as the Baleares (sp?). But of course there is quite a number of different Iberian units in EB to be found, most of them are on a mercenary level avaible throughout Iberia, but Lusitana logically also fields Iberian units.

I daresay you won't find many large-scale(meaning size of map) mods which represent the Iberian peninsula as well as EB does...

Are you being sarcastic? Last time I looked, RTR's last release was a minimod taking place entirely in Iberia. I haven't played it myself, though.

If you re-read his sentence, you will see the following:

    Notice the bold.

My bad, I interpreted the "large-scale, size of map" phrase as one meaning a focus on the Iberian Peninsula (making it bigger), rather than meaning a Mediterranean-spanning mod that presents Iberia well.

No problem, sorry for being unclear (English is not my native language -_- ).

Of course "The Iberian Conflict" of the Rome Total Realism team is probably the most detailed Iberian scenario, I totally agree there.

    Although this isn't historically correct.

At least Majorica was fully independent. And the Carthaginians only have permanent colonies in Ibiza (Ebusus).

I don't think Tanit will mind me posting this.

Details: The Balearic islands are unique because they were accepted into the empire in the same way as the Phoenician colonies elsewhere were, but there were no colonies there. The Baleares were not directly governed as far as we can tell, they were merely taken advantage of by intelligent generals who realized the potential of Balearic troops.
Obviously we have to deal with the complex situation in a very simplified mechanics of a game, but it was accepted in the Qart-Hadast empire in much the same way as other colonies, and so was essentially under colonial rule, even if no Liby-Phoenician colonies were found there.

    I understand this.

In Ibiza (Iboshim for the Punics and later Ebussus for the Romans), they were an important colony/city/outpost of Carthago.

But in Mallorca there was nothing at all, except only in the southeastern coast of the island, there was some sort of punic footprint. Maybe little comercial points, maybe the punic objects were brought by the mercenaries that fought for Carthago when they returned home.

In Menorca - the punic general Mago recruited important numbers of mercenaries, and it is said that he gave his name to what in time became the city of Mahon.

There was punic presence in the little island of Capraria (now Cabrera), and its minor islands - in one of them, named now Conejera was a shrine devoted to Juno Lucina. Some sources pointed that island as the birthplace of Hannibal, but it was a clear mistake in the copy of one Strabo's passage ("parva Hannibalis" was transformed in "patria Hannibalis").

In the town council of Palma (my town) we can see one portrait of Hannibal (made in XIX century) as a illustrious son of the city. LOL.

Take Crete as another example: some parts were very Macedonian friendly in 272, some were very independent, and some were under the influence of the Spartans or other Greek poleis. How do we represent it? Well, there is no perfect way, but we make it independent on the whole.

Maybe the best wat to represent the reality of the balearic islands could be a punic type III or IV government at the beggining of the game - not type I.
