I am not sure if this is a bug, so if anyone could give me an explanation, I would appreciate it, if it isnt a bug.

Right now I am playing as the Italians and have pretty much kept to myself besides taking on them pesky Sicilians very early on and slowly hurting the Alhomads and Byzantines. The HRE and France have been duking it out just North of me for a long while. They finally made peace and the HRE decided they would like to take some of my land. Not much of a problem since I was actually going to launch a Crusade from that province against the Almos. Anyways back to the point, the HRE comes into my territory and loses. Both of us are in good standing with the Pope and are not excommunicated. By the way, HRE has more territory and armies than I have. After the HRE loses to me, they retreat and then call a Crusade against me. I didnt think one catholic nation could launch a crusde against another catholic nation if they are both in good standing with the Pope. Any answers to this?

I've seen this a time or two as well.

I think the reason is, that I've taken territory that is a legitimate crusade target. The AI had "plans" to launch a crusade there (maybe they build a crusade with this in mind). The AI then launches the crusade even though I've taken the province in the meantime.

If the crusade is launched against a province that until recently was a moslem or excom province I'de say this is the explanation. It's still a bug though...
Nope - no sig what so ever.

HRE is still going at it to me, keeps launching crusades against his fellow catholics, any other possible explanations?

    To quote the manual:

"the pope won't allow crusades 2 provinces belonging 2 "good" catholic factions"

so its either a bug or u have been excomm'd?

also, is the HRE crusade attacking & not just moving through 2 another target province?

Are you excommunicated at the moment, or have you been excommunicated before? IIRC, there is a bug when the excommunication wouldn't be "completely" over, although you get the message of x-comm being void, some issues would still remain. And this one should be fixed in the p-word.

Havent been excommunicated once (and I am still in good standing with the pope, still a good catholic and actually have an alliance with the pope) and the AI said that the HRE was declaring a crusade against me, not just going through my province to attack someone else.

I think this has just happened 2 me, & it looks as if it is as Magraev posted above.

Spanish launch crusade to antioch, i take antioch & then get the pop up that the spanish have a crusade heading to my region.

crusade arrives at sinai, i refuse passage, i get excomm'd, HRE invades venice, i terminate that campaign.

I got so annoyed by the crusades and their various bugs, that I modded the crusaderbuilding file so that you need a castle15 to build a chapter_house. So, if you start in early there simply are no crusades. If you start later, you'll have to remove the preplaced chapter_houses in the startpos file.

Eh, there's a message when the excom ends? I've never ever ever seen this. Curious.
