Like many, I was looking forward to playing MTW. I enjoyed Shogun and loved the atmosphere, but unfortunately I'm interested in Medieval history esp Warfare in Middle Ages. MTW came close to making a real gem that I would have loved - heres what they did wrong....
- We all miss the lovely videos in STW! When I lost a game this picture came up reminding me of Civilization 1 from 1990!
- Epic battles with more than 10,000 men? Try playing battle after battle chasing around 100 Clansmen in Scotland. Granted some computers do have trouble with many sprites.
- Micro Management! Shogun had some micro management, but MTW has gone overboard. The idea of awarding titles nad marrying Pincess is a cutsy idea, but it also gives you headaches at 2 AM. I liken these things as novelties to the first 10 turns, after that its like pulling teeth and you hoping your wife wont pump out so many damn girls.
- MOST importantly. I do believe the castle sieges are being corrected in the patch. However, the entire system must be radically changed. Its ashame to have such beautiful sieges and theres no point to them. I'm in the year 1250 as English and have about half of Europe - I havnt conducted one siege attack and I'm on hard difficulty.
- Sieges must be radically altered so there is an immense amount of strategy to go with it. Also the sieger himself might be in dire straights without siege weapons - e.g. the guy sieging a castle must pay extra cost or HE could lose guys from desertion disease, etc.
- Historically Medieval battles were rare and sieges are constant. How many of you have just clicked resolve after the 20th battle in the same turn? By enhacning the siege portion of the game, more players would be more likely to garrison inside their castles and battles would be rarer. This would be a GOOD thing - when a battle does occur players would look forward to fighting out because its not one after another. Also, battles suddenly become more critical and important giving meaning to it in the first place.
- Make it HARD to take a province. I believe by making castle sieges much more advantageous for the defender taking a province actually becomes a real challenge. I'm tired like many of you of taking all of Europe. The best England ever did - lets see they took 3 or 4 provinces in France - the English had one hell of a time taking Whales and Scotland. Yea I had a real blast taking Wales - lets see I fought like 100 guys and took wales in the year 1100, that was alot of fun, *putting in Shogun CD in drive, deleting MTW files*
- Overall objectives should be focused on glorious objectives etc. This is NOT civilization here. Personally I feel bored taking Europe - its never been done historically and taking it ever damn time makes me bored *yawning falling asleep*
- Taking provinces just became harder with tougher sieges. Also tougher sieges adds a whole new strategy element to the game. What about rams? Siege towers with wheels (what are those called again)? earthworks? moats? Sieges could become a game within themselves instead of cool that was fun now how should I win the game here spending all my money on useless siege equipment or letting the garrison fall without siege.
- All in all, the whole game hinges on how the Siege works out. I want a real challenge here, and a historical challenge. I was looking forward to some exciting battles with the scots and french such as 100 years war (playing Engalish) its the year 1200 I killed all the Scots, Welsh , and destroyed France. What fun.
