Well you certainly don't need our permission to play/mod Medieval 2 -- we understand your reasons, and none of us are going to hold it against you. If it makes you feel better, though, then I give you my official blessing (just read Cynwulf's writ of permission).

I think you are a foul traitor.

There, someone had to say it. Martok and others are aware of my undying love for MTW, even though I am absent from this forum section most of the time.

Seriously, I'd love to read about your modding adventures. Maybe I will have to change to M2TW as well.

You see, I myself can't play MTW anymore because I have Vista...

Thanks guys. Technically, I only called the topic what I did because it's a dilemma for me, I wasn't really looking for permission...but now I have it, you are powerless to stop me! Bwahahahahah! Oh, did I just think that last part out, or type it out aswell?

Been *trying* to do some modding of M2TW the last couple of days, but it hasn't really gone anywhere. My main concern is in the units area, because I'm neither a modeller nor a skinner, and I don't think I'll have the time to do everything for the mod (plus I'm worried that any units I can borrow from other mods won't be enough). Just so much to worry about at the moment, and MTW: VI appears to be calling to me from it's case...what's that? You want me to uninstall M2 and reinstall M1 and then try out either XL or BKB's Supermod? I don't know...I mean, what if I get caught?

I might need to enlist a team, and then re-identify what the mod will offer...

EDIT: Right now, in fact, I'm seriously considering sitting on this idea for a while, uninstalling M2, and improvising on the battlemap with MTW: VI. I don't want to muck anyone about or anything, of course. Just that it seems it'll take a very long time to do, and if it's on my own, I might not be able to put what I want into the mod (some of which without, it just wouldn't feel worth it). It'd take a lot of dedication, and I want to get back into animating, too, so I don't want this to take forever (literally never happening, going far too slow) or to compromise other things far too much. Heh, that's why I called the topic 'Decisions, decisions, decisions...' - not so black and white a choice. Heck, improvising using the radar map on the battlemap is doable, and definitely makes me appreciative of MTW: VI all the more...

I believe in a society without rules, laws and regulations. A society where there are only ideas - strict ideas that must be followed to by the letter - and any failure to comply is punishable by death. This would be no dictatorship or police state, no one would be living in terror. It would merely be a 'reassessment of one's preferences,' people living in 'not-so-optimistic security.' So, welcome, those who are 'longing to be blindly obedient and loyal, unbeknownst to them.'

We read you, Kaidonni. My nostalgia goes even farther back, to Shogun TW. Like you, I guess most of us wish there were a way to save the spirit ofthe older TW games: the atmosphere, the AI (!), the shared adventure. The latter is something I really miss as well, posting on the .Org just isn't the same anymore now that everybody seems to be playing a different console, game or mod.

Bottom line: no matter how much you mod M2TW, you are not going to get a better AI. The M1TW AI was one brilliant animal, the like of which we will probably not find in another game soon.

Sigh...there isn't really enough room on F drive anyway to get my own mod to work. It probably requires, if I've read the tutorials correctly, certain files to be copied and pasted into my own mod folder regardless - and will therefore prevent anything from working. Just too many other issues, too. I'd love to mod M2, but it's the amount of time and effort that it would take (and sure, everything takes time and effort, but for modding a game, I'm less inclined to change to accomodate it into my life).

Of course, the nostalgia is the biggest hurdle. Uninstalled M2, re-installing MTW Gold...LOL...it's like a siren. A very effective one at that, and one that wouldn't get much bad press in the Big Book of Myths.
