Well, I'm not too experienced with the more western factions in BC, but the Rajputs can, if done right, handle the mongols fairly well. Longbows and elephants supported by hordes of everything else you can throw at them.

It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then, the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.
