I believe that is part of the phalanx bug that was added with the upgrade to v1.5/v1.6.

I hate that bug, sometimes my phalanx drift and are facing away from the enemy when engaging the fight. A bug that makes you look stupid.

That's kind of a wierd bug. y would they include one that makes half your unit wander off and let those who r still fighting carry the burden of their comrades?

Unintended consequence of another fix? Software companies generally don't intentionally include bugs in their programs.

What Foot says. When you change ( or fix ) something its possible to brake something else in the process. Happened to me few times.

I have the impression that phalanxes are better in keeping formation in guard mode - as long as that does lead them to face in any odd directions. Sometimes the phalanx dirfts back and away from the enemy, but leaving it alone it sometimes keeps on "coming back". In general the phalanx is most buggy in RTW what is a problem given that is the most important unit on the Eastern half of the EB map.
