If there are three or more armies on the field, the chances for a crash are greater.
Always save before a fight, and try waiting a bit before exiting the battle.
Some battles just seem to crash every time afterwards, without reason. Auto_win these battles. You could try to use a trait neuter file as a temperary fix, but I don't know if there is a v1.1 neuter file.

What I always do is check the post-battle report on all the units and stuff. I go check on that and look at the insane kill rates by my prodromoi and rhomphaiaphoroi before going on.

Yep, waiting around 15 seconds has brought my post-battle CTDs down to zero.
It began on seven hills - an EB 1.1 Romani AAR with historical house-rules (now ceased)
Heirs to Lysimachos - an EB 1.1 Epeiros-as-Pergamon AAR with semi-historical houserules (now ceased)
    Philetairos' Gift - a second EB 1.1 Epeiros-as-Pergamon AAR
