Default New Ideas for Total War

Am I the only one who wants to see the TW series take an idea away from the Civilization series. I wish they came out with a version that you can pick which countries you want to be a part of it and it randomly makes changes to the map before the start of each game. It might be less fun for the historical buffs, but each time you start a game it would have a brand new map and a different mix of opponents to go up against. There would be a lot of kinks and some tough programming, but I would love to see the finished product.

the LMM scripting could make a functional medieval map from a simple picture in around 60 minutes,
to make an mtw2 map would take considerably longer,
people would want to hop right into a "random map" camaign straight away,

so give them a couple of "starter maps" at install,
and then some of the processing required for the NEXT campaign map could be carried out in the background while you play a current campaign.

giving people a single basic starting city/village and a couple of units would simplify things greatly too.

    i like the idea.
lets hope someone on the dev team does too

A "random map generator" would be a fantastic addition; I wouldn't mind if it took a while to do it, it's not like I'd need a new one every campaign, just once the existing map is starting to get boring.

Or failing that, just making the campaign map a bit more user-friendly to mod would be a big help.

I'd like to see them take ideas from Civilization, but this one would be way near the bottom of the list. Still on the list I suppose.

I m a historical buff so yeah, i wont really make use of a random map generator. but i believe that the CA should do some random maps since itll make the game funner for those people who just want something different every time. is there any way to send comments to CA? cuz then players could ask CA to include a random map generator in the upcoming EMpire: Total War. Getting a bit off topic, im thinking about buying Civ4 and just wondering if its random map only and no maps of the entire world.

The CA devs post in the Empire forum from time to time so if you post there there's a good chance they'll read it. Or you could post at the forums at totalwar.com, I believe they frequent those more often.

I am almost certain Civ4 has a "real world" map, every other installment has.

That would be pretty cool...What are the chances of it happening though?

Historicalness is all fine and dandy for a while, but It gets old. A nice random map would make a good way to liven the games up a bit, and reopen the fun of historicalness.

    Yes Civ4 does.

I'd like to see the option in TW - but only in additional to the historical map(s).

What I'd really like would be STW and MTW's starting period choices instead of one grand campaign(how about a slightly different campaign map for each starting period to reflect its historical changes and focus?) and their re-emerging factions, for more unpredictability.

Absolutely! I really loved trying to acheive victory as the HRE in Late in the original MTW. Citadels, pike and halberdiers everywhere and not the usual tons of cash and stacks that I usually have by the time I hit Late.

As for a random map generator, I'm not too fussed. I would like a Whole World map though, perhaps one where settlement locations (and names) and province borders change for different eras.
I love the Tech tree aspect of Civ. How this could be included to allow cultures who put a high value on research amd innovation to access more advanced methods of warfare - seige equipment, crossbows, gunpowder etc before others, would be very nice

BTW Civ and TW are the only games I have played for, er, too long to mention now and I would love to see some sort of fusion between them that allows real time strat playing against real opponents. For me this is the Holy Grail of Gaming. But I dream...
