    Default crash reports please

    many thanks to all those who logged on this morning and ran the mod,

    we had 2 extra patches to test this morning,
    and we all had both installed concurrently,

    so we now have to figure out wether it was 8.1 or tms that caused the crash

    facts
    • we were able to play 4v4 using tms (2008 samwar) japanes clans (any clans),
    • we had a few 4v4's that went without a hitch as long as we all stayed with japanese units,
      (+)we had NO desyncs under those conditions
    • as soon as more than 2 people existed in a match
      (+)AND someone picked mongols, and it seemed not to matter which particular unit, the game would crash as the battle map loading phase.
    • we tried 1v1 with all mongol units on the field, and that worked,
    • 2v1 (and above) - crashed
    • we played both 8.1 and 2008 as japanese and all worked fine
    • we were UNABLE to test beta8 + TMS -(without) 8.1 > due to time contraints
    • we were UNABLE to test beta8 + 8.1 -(without) TMS > due to time contraints


    any other observations peoples??

    i noticed that the unit prod has TWO entries for the "mongol imposters",
    would that cause such a problem as we saw this morning??

    (BTW i can be online from 1900 any day of the week at the moment)

    My addition to your list barocca....

    The HOST pc being responsible for the crashes was ruled out by two of us Hosting test games.

    Player v Player, whichever combination of any two Players, ran the test ok. It was the introduction of a Third or more Players that seemed to be the problem.

    Even tests with all of the same unit (mongol) in 1v1 run ok.

    A Process of elimination was a thought.
    Each Player in turn joining a 1v1 to see if there was a mis-match or conflict with 'install' that was causing the 'crash'.

    Trying to help put a finger on the problem.

    Has there been any problems with the 8.1 MP by it's self, without the Mongol add?

    There were no problems as long as we didnt use Mongols

    We did positively test 2008SW but we did not introduce Mongols as one of the factions in these games. Neither did we test more than one player taking Mongols while the others took Japanese. The only Mongol tests run were ALL Mongol games. When the first Sengoku era 2008SW game ran ok, we should have introduced the Mongols one player at a time. We still don't know if 4 Mongol v 4 Japan will run. I am able to test any night but on Wednesday and Friday I can't get online much before 10pm (BST)

    Edit: Correction. One 3v2 Japan/Mongol where Puzz3D dropped and Barocca was having GPU trouble but only 2 players took Mongols in that game and we know that 2 Mongol armies tested ok

    Platform & Installation info:
    NVidiaGEForce7900 graphics card
    Win XP SP2
    2.16GHz CPU, 2GB RAM
    Samurai Warlords 8.1 + Sound patch + maps patch

    Error conditions:
    Select Single Player, Campaign, Easy, (all other default settings)
    Select Takeda clan

    Error Symptom:

    Splash screen with progress bar appears
    Progress bar continues, reaches 100%
    App crashes (system does not freeze)

    From error log:
    C:\Source\VikingsPatch\Crusaders_TW\main3d_1.cpp(1929) : DirectX call : DDERR_SURFACELOST

    Other notes:
    This does not happen with all clans.

    After choosing Single Player, New Campaign and Easy Difficulty, make sure you highlight Samurai Warlords on the next screen before pressing Continue. Leaving it on the default "Samurai Wars MP" will produce a crash when loading the campaign map, and don't use the "2008 Samurai Warlords" selection because it isn't finished.

    Other than that, I don't know what would be causing a clan specific crash unless one of the config files has been altered. You could try making another install of just the Samurai Warlords 8. The 8.1 is only for multiplayer, and the sound mod and maps aren't necessary.
