only one thread/post per page?
After clicking on a subject that looks interesting, with "linear mode" selected, I get one post per page. What happened to multiple posts on one page and scrolling through them? I found that to be MUCH easier than this new setup. Or am I missing an option somewhere? If it is an option, and it is contained within the user control panel, I can't change it. I seem to not be allowed to change or view my own info as well.

Post elsewhere. You need to be promoted to Junior Member, hyou just need 1 post not in the whatchroom.
I can see at the top of your post Display Modes, then click in Linear mode.

I believe its there to stop bots using the PM system for spamming. The "New Member" rank has only one PM slot. If the PM is sent to the "Sent Items" folder, then that's just enough to PM an admin if something goes wrong.I never knew you needed a post to be promoted to Junior Member.
