Having just player the SP campaigns for the last two weeks - I find my interest in the game waining already - quite soon relatively to other games. I think this loss of enthusiasm to play may be related to the fact that in essence it is very much the same game as Shogun with a little more variability in the campaign development techs, buildings, and units. The different units held my interest for a little while - but now when I think of playing I just cant be bothered facing another boring battle against the AI which is like a chore - autoresolve? why bother playing at all, if your going to autoresolve! after all its all about the battles. Shogun - Mongol - Medieval have all had a few different units but in essence are identical games as far as game play - It shows a lack of imagination as far as the development of the game with companies happy to repackage and resell the same game over and over. I love the total war series but after 4 years of the same game even my enthusiasm is wavering and with each succesive game will total war - 4, last about a day?

Im interested in opinions and how other long term players of the shogun series are finding the new game? Has the novelty worn off yet?

    cheers

A agree with you to some extent. It is the same as Shogun. My counteragument is so how could it be any worse. Remember the siege portion of the game was designed to add more variety to the game. The patch is planned to make sieges more viable than battles so that fewer battles occur and more sieges. Fewer battles will give greater importance to each battle so that you will not auto-click. In any case hopefully this is how they'll so it in the patch. In any case I spent forty bucks on this game and cant take it back. Additionally, I'm interested in the Middle Ages and no game comes close to this one in terms of huge realistic medieval battles. I suggest you sit tight and wait for the patch to come out to make the game more challenging, and try the game on expert to give you more competition.

I agree Richard, but will the patch achieve this goal or will it simply be a little less that hoped for as has been the cursed history of shogun and patching. I also agree that medieval is great as far a battles and strategy and were this my first total war game I would definitely be loving this game for ages as I did with shogun - I envy those guys and wish I could find that enthusiasm again but being bored already does not bode well, another sign of the times is I havent even bothered trying to log on multiplayer yet again because I feel I will be disappointed by the here I am again feeling! I think this was inevitable for guys who played alot of shogun?!

The only thing I miss from Shogun are the videos. Yun, also remember that Shogun had the warlord edition added, without the expansions the original Shogun was quite simple compared to MTW. My point? The MTW expansion is going to make this game a real gem. Just wait until the expansion comes out as well.
