Default Caucasus to the World: A Hayasdan Midgame AAR

    Hello all,
This is my first attempt at an AAR. I really enjoy reading others, such as Chirurgeon and Hax, and have decided to give it a go at doing my own. A few things too:
    I almost never use toggle_fow
I prefer a skirmisher/cavalry fight so don't be freaked out if you don't see a lot of infantry (however unhistorical it is).
I am on H/M with Large Unit Scale
    I'm just having fun!

    Chapter 1: The Story Unfolds

“It is a glorious day to find oneself king of our great Kingdom of Hayasdan! Mines producing a surplus of precious metals, the best troops in the land, and plenty of Seleukid scum ready to be destroyed. Breathe the fresh air men, for soon, we conquer all Asia!”
These are the first words of our Royal History of Hayasdan, as reported by the King’s scribe.

It is in this winter of the 44th year since the death of our great King Orontes, son of Mihran, that our armies begin to gather for the great march West. Our great King Samus Yervanduni is growing too old to lead the campaigns West, so his son Aram, and nephew Mher, must lead the army westward. Our Pontic friends in the west will hold our backdoor, while our barbaric allies, the Getai, across the Pontus Euxinus hold the Sauromatae’s attention. Our horse loving allies, the Pahlav are aiding us in attacking our overbearing neighbors the Seleukids.

We have just in this past year taken from the Seleukids the great town of Ekbatana, being much too large to handle we were forced to put the citizens to the sword and reap the rewards of large amounts of plunder. This once great city shall form a great base for our future operations East, and form a great buffer for now against a large Seleukid threat to the South and East.

Soon, the world will feel the might of the proud and stout of heart people from the depths of the Caucasus’ Mountains!

This is a great compliment, sir. Best wishes to you and your AAR! And beware the children of Seleukos!

    Chapter 2: The March West!

It is now the Summer of the 45th year after the death of Orontes. Before the great march West could begin, there were a couple of threats at home to deal with. At the recently won, Ekbata, our great King was under pressure from the threat of a medium size Seleukid army. Vahagn, son of our great King made it just in time with a small relief force of archers that were to go in the garrison. The sacrifices were made, the omens proved favorable, and so the battle lines were drawn up.

During the battle there were many good men lost on our side, but the Seleukids were no match for our speed and accuracy at the bow.

The King even took his fair share of the kills, charging and killing at will. The bodyguard were merciless in their protection of our aging king, to the great loss of the Seleukid army.

The siege was lifted, the Eastern border would be safe for another day.

Word reached the King that in the spring, on our Southern border the battle raged for Karkathiokerta, with Aram taking up a strong position on a large nearby hill, and the Seleukid leaders choosing a very unwise position in the valley just below. The slaughter that ensued will be remembered for ages.

With the borders secured and reinforcements coming from the heart of the Empire, the march West could begin!

Aram’s recently recruited army was fresh and eager for battle, and they found it, just outside of Mazaka, in the Spring. Our line was drawn up in standard formation against a smaller Seleukid army, though we found out they were bringing up reinforcements from the town to fight in the battle. Our generals were eager for battle.

The battle enraged around their general, surely this decisive combat would sway the battle to whoever would come out victorious.

In the end, he ran, and we came out on top! But with such heavy losses, was the battle really a great victory?

At last, the town could be taken, the remnants of the garrison wouldn’t put up much fight. We were soon inside, and the general would soon fall. Mazaka would be ours!

Reinforcements from home are on their way, but the Seleukids have another army coming for Karkathiokerta. A relief force is en route, but will there be enough time?
