I remember reading in my history books (i got a shelf full of them) that tributes were measured in talents or sesterces. (like when Nero told Florus to steal 400,000 sesterces from the jewish temple in Jerusalem to make up the shortfall with Nero's ridiculous spending extravaganza's)
