What really helped me going when i worked in a factory was the fact there were men and women not too far from retirement age working a full 8 hour physical shift, so as a young healthy adult who likes to think he can cope with hard work it kind of guilted me into surviving the shift....

Hearing about the working conditions in the 3rd world can only make the job seem better as well...

Lol, my last job was 12 hours a day 7 days a week with 1 out of 3 nights on call and being expected to respond even if I wasn't on call.

Nowadays I do my 37 hours a week and no more, I don't do overtime and I definately don't work for nothing. The only reason I work is to buy good stuff whether it's paying the mortgage or buying a new fish tank and as I was promoted in December I can afford most of the things I want.

well... but if you get paid good... i get paid crappy

Considering we are talking about employments, anyone here from the IT or Computer Engineering sector?

I work in the IT sector... but i am in the US for now and work only 40 hrs a week... so have no complaints. A lot of my friends back in India in similar roles easily do 12 hour days 5-6 days a week.

I suppose needs must but i can't imagine myself handling working that many hours (unless it was my hobby as well as my work) 40 hours a week seemed like a lot to me.... it felt like there was hardly anytime left to enjoy myself

well the weekend was all fine and good, -48 hours, 80 hours, it was just during the week i felt i hardly had any time to enjoy myself, 45 hours for sleep through weekdays, that only leaves seven hours a day, including getting back and fore work getting ready for work ect. and then theres the fact that shifts are placed incoveniently, i guess i value my time alot more highly than money.... i never did any overtime....

The FM is cos it's summer and I didn't play at all today...yet. Term-time I'm a bit more busy with college.
