Default Man, the AI likes to get you all at once huh?

Playing my Massalian game. Second war with Carthage starts around 233bc, following season Rome declares war on me, which instantly breaks my alliance with the Arverni and Lussotan. 2 turns after that, Lussotan declare war and threaten my Spanish holdings.

Is it common for the AI to declare war all at once? My financial situation really got stretched with a 3 front war, but I managed to defeat Carthage all the way back to Sardin and Africa, and Rome isn't fairing too well either. I conquered Sicily from Carthage and pushed into Rhegion and now am threatening Italia from the north and south. Lussotan also are being pushed back.

Since the Arverni refrained from declaring war while this was all going on, is it reasonable to believe that they will stay neutral for the time being? I don't think I can handle another front.

I dont think the AI plots to destroy you with one final blow, but, at least with me, they do that often

The AI does "hate" the player (it's programmed to be more hostile toward you), and the AI factions will often forget their differences and team up against you.

Is that the case on all difficulties, or just hard and very hard? I only play hard or very hard so it's a moot point for me really, just curious.

IMX it happens even on Normal, but it's worse on Hard and much worse on VH.

RTW, 167 BC: Rome expels Greek philosophers after the Lex Fannia law is passed. This bans the effete and nasty Greek practice of 'philosophy' in favour of more manly, properly Roman pursuits that don't involve quite so much thinking.

I have been roleplaying this game, so I think it's set to hard mode instead of VH. Those bastard Arverni better not betray me! I saved their ass from the Aeudui and even ended up capturing and gifting them Aeudui settlements.

Let's hope the AI knows compassion, because Rome, Lusottani, and Carthage is learning about revenge right now! =P

Confirmin, I only play on N/N and so far I never really get ganked from all ends.

Have been in similar situations before, including a sudden 5 front war. Needless to say, my Getic armies were up to the task.

Started another Hayasdan campaign yesterday. Took the Eleutheroi Caucasus holdings. The Arche seemed a bit disappointed that I had just beaten them to Phraaspa. Next turn, declaration of war, and a futile siege of Phraapsa. Fun, as I was the only ally that had not betrayed them; and instead of sending armies to deal with Baktria, Pahlava, and to a lesser extent the Saka, or to the West to deal with the Ptollies and the Pontic upstarts, they send them to me. Turn after that they manage to get a cease fire with the Ptollies. Hope I can hold out.

Strange enough the only two factions that actually never betrayed a peace or an alliance (with me) in game are the Epirotes and Sauromatae.

AS on Hai campaigns become a real asshole, really

about Epirotes and Sarmatians, i guess either they had no real intention on attacking to take your lands, or you just got lucky, because both of those factions betrayed me already, on a regular basis, darn, i'm i hatred by the AI?

I've played multiple Hai campaigns and have never witnessed the Sauromate betray me.

AS sends nonstop stacks but eventually you will wear down their military machine. An army of 2 FM's and 6 Scythian Horse Archers will stop anything they send at you. If not, you can retreat after depleting your arrows, and finish off the stack the following engagement.
