Default hi why are some heavy troops classed as light troops?

hi just been reading up on the cathagians troops and you've classed the sacred band infantry,
elite liby - phoenicians infantry and gaulic heavy swordsmen as light infantry sacred band infantry,
elite liby - phoenicians infantry were more or less the same equipment as iberian assault infantry but there classed as heavy is there something in the game which makes them more real by classing them as light eg faster moving than heavy.

Default AW: hi why are some heavy troops classed as light troops?

Ok, guess it's time for a first post:
As far as I know the categorization of a unit as light/heavy/whatever has no impact on the units stats. It only affects the way, the AI uses the unit in a battle and I guess also when it is recruiting an army. If there is something like logic behind the AIs army composition.

Sorry, for my bad english, hope it's understandable.

Dunno, I always thought that the AI was at the level of a hamster on the wheel.

It would depend on which game/expansion you would be playing in.

no problem with bad english I'm just as bad

anyway seen as well no official members have been on it a mistake or something that comes up alot sorry about if it any of theirs

don't seem to make sense to affect there AI recruit number as there heavy units and they would use less heavy than light, sacred bands are myth units after 5th when Syracuse kill the whole unit of them so you would want them less

the way the AI use them in battle seem reasonable

could it be there's a limited number of unit slots for heavy and light so they got the light classing?

Each AI does, or should anyways, do things different then the other factions, since each AI has a "personality". The Averni for example are a trader smith, the Romans are a balanced caesar, and the Carthagians are a sailor caesar. While I have no idea what each one is other then vauge ideas, I do know those controls what types of troops they prefer to make, if they would rather build walls and barracks over trade and culture buildings, how aggressive they are, and so on.

i think you're confusing weapon type for unit class. weapon type (light or heavy) only applies towards weapon upgrades w/blacksmith type buildings. unit class (light or heavy infantry; light, heavy or missile cavalry; spearmen) are what determine AI recruitment and formation placement.

sacred band infantry, elite liby-phoenician are classed as spearmen (there is no light or heavy for this class).

hmm what about heavy swordsmen though heavy in the name and still light and the other 2 are just like the iberian assault infantry but you could say light for spears but there's the Epirote Elite Phalanx are light were as the African veteran Phalanx are heavy there more or less the same weapon

    makes no sense

forgot about that but the Carthaginians don't seem right on this as well least to my knowledge there seafarers and they build military builds instead of ports

With this sort of thing, just change it. Make sure you change the Single player and multiplayer EDU, otherwise you won't be able to go online with them. 5 minutes work at best, plus it tells you what to do at the top.

do not go by the 'light' and 'heavy' that are shown on the unit card under weapon type. that's just to show what weapon type can be upgraded with the different levels of blacksmith (EB only uses one level though). The place you should be looking is when you hover the arrow over a unit or unit card. it will say in parenthesis, 'light infantry', 'heavy infantry', 'spearmen', 'light cavalry', 'heavy cavalry', missile cavalry', etc

They build ports in all their cities. They don't use those ports to build navies/attack by sea cause the RTW AI isn't smart enough to do that. BI, and I assume ALEX AI is smart enough and does do navies and naval invasions.

Naval invasions on BI cant be considered......invasions since its more like WW1, sending a bunch of guys running through a field under fire of machine guns and bombs, more like a blood bath

on Alex.exe however, naval invasions can be considered invasions since they at least send a more coherent and sometimes experienced armies at you, and they dont spam it

As was staid this classification is for AI only and influences AI recruiting routines and battle line position of unit.
Was it made intentionally in this case or is it a mistake? I cant tell, I didnt work on this.
I would leave it as it is though.
