Default A Tribute to Europa Barbarorum

Hello follow EB’ers. Long time no see.

I am longtime EB player/forumer who ceased both activities months ago after buying a new computer capable of handling M2TW. At first I was amazed at all the eye candy, but I quickly got bored as I realized that the game had no real depth. I tried at least a dozen mods, but remained intensely frustrated by the lack of realism and accuracy in all of them. Some were better than others, but as a whole they left me feeling empty on the inside.

Then one day as I was modding an M2TW mod, slaving away trying to make it balanced and at least mildly realistic, I fell upon some old files titled “EB.” For the next half hour I nostalgically reminisced over the good ol’ days, the countless hours of fun EB had provided. Well, its a day later and I’m a half-decade into a KH campaign, fighting for my very survival against Antigonos and Pyrrhus.

I can’t believe it, but I enjoy EB far more than M2TW or any M2 mods on the market. I only regret that it took me months of exile in order to learn that you can’t do any better than EB, even with RTW’s primitive engine. With the sheer amount of blood, toil, tears, and sweat poured into every individual faction (if I may quote Sir Winston Churchill), I doubt that it is possible to ever grow tired of it.

I never realized till now how much I appreciate EB and the people who created it. There truly is no other mod like it. I think we too often take it for granted that we can enjoy other people’s hard work for free, so I just wanted to say “thanks” to the EB team and everyone involved/affiliated with it.

p.s. Why don’t the legionaries wear the lorica segmentata cuirass?

Hear, Hear TWFanatic, I am in total agreement with that statement. I was originally not even going to buy MiNO (Medieval in Name Only), but then I stumbled across the EBII forum, so I went and got a copy. I then figured, what the hey, I'll give this sucker a try. I played the vanilla version for about a half hour before I got bored with this thing. I still wanted to give it a chance though, and remembering how vanilla RTW was when it first came out, I started downloading mod after mod ad infinitum. Must give props to my harddrive for not taking a crap on me with all the install, play, uninstalls in the space of an hour that I've put it through . I kept this up for a month or 2, a few of the mods seemed promising, one total conversion especially, but alas, while it was a great achievement for such a short time spent on it (especially in comparison to the YEARS spent developing and perfecting EB), there were certain historical and gameplay issues that made it another bust. I may try it again in the future once an update occurs, but for now that one is still unplayable for me. I guess we EB players all got spoiled by such a great mod, and now there's no going back. Some of those MiNO modders are really talented individuals, but are no EB dev team (shame, that, though I bet in a few years those guys will get to that level of modding dankness). Anyway, the end result of my foray into the world of MiNO is that it sits in a drawer collecting dust against the day EBII finally comes out. For anyone who read this post, thanks for listening to my ramble, and again, THANK YOU EB TEAM.

And yes, I'm happily enjoying a few concurrent 1.1 campaigns ( gamer's A.D.D. lol) I actually came back to EB while doing my morning coffee and forum check routine the day 1.1 was released (so of course I had to download and try it, since I've been having so much fun with EB since v.81 or so). I've never looked back since.

that's very nice to hear, its a huge motivation to push ahead on EB2 when we can come here and see that EB1 is still a fun experience, and even better than M2TW. We'll see how you feel about M2TW mods when EB2 is released...

Thanks very much for the kind words to our group.

As Paullus says, this kind of gratitude certainly helps motivate the group as a whole to work towards EB2.

As to your final question, I assume it's a joke.

Your assumption is correct. I just thought it rather odd that we haven't had an LS thread in a while.
