Thread: Koinon Hellenon Units
SpartanPhalanx 12:38 07-26-2008
Okay I have a couple of questions...

I can't seem to find a unit that can 'form a phalanx'. I have looked through the recruitment viewer which comes up with the Koinon Hellenon Phalangitai which should be trainable in Lakonike and Mysia (plus others) on level four native barracks however they don't appear in game. Do Koinon Hellenon have units that can 'form a phalanx' or should I just start a game as the Selukids if I want to use them?

Also the Rhodian Slingers appear on the unit roster on www.europabarbarorum.com but don't appear on recruitment viewer can you actually train them?

Thanks in advance

About the phalanx formation, it's only used by phalangites. The KH used mostly hoplites, reformed and classical ones. The KH phalangitai represent a unit of phalangites trained in the Makedonian fashion, as such they can form a phalanx, or more correctly the Makedonian syntagma. As for recruitment, they are only available after the vanilla Marians hit, or March of Time. This only occurs when SPQR build a large palace at Roma.

Rhodian slingers appear on the recruitment viewer, just look better. Rhodos is an island in the south-east part of Anatolia, they're only recruitable there. And you can train them, you just need an army or royal barracks.

No problem, though I would advice you wait until the Marians hit and you can recruit the pahalngites. Then you can overrun the Romaioi ;)

Actually the March of time happens if rome builds a huge city - governor in one of the starting cities except Rome at that is already a huge city.

The Rhodian Slingers aren't in the Recruitment Guide but so long as I can train them cool.

Also thanks again for your help.

What recruitment viewer are you using? The one downloaded from the website or the one that came with EB 1.1? Since you have unit cards, I am guessing it is the former; that one is for EB 1.0, not 1.1. Rhodian slingers were only included in the latest build.

No, we all agree with you on that point. I think what he was trying to say is that you said the March of Time happens when Rome becomes a huge city. However, that's not true. It happens when the SPQR develops a huge city in Italy, excluding Rome.

lol, I'm not saying anymore, too confusing.

Well, I'm quite confused also :P. Anyway, you have to keep the Romans alive unitl they hit, that's for sure!

what if you have MMA city mod installed and the only huge city you can have in italy is rome?

Roma not rome in the codes, so it's alright.....sometimes at least...

Why does the KH phalangites only appear after the marian reforms? Why do they have to wait for them? That isn't right.......I think

Prove me wrong

it ain the marian reforms, it's the march of time.

Marian reforms' activate via the EB script, while the march of time is seemingly triggered by settlement in italy turning huge.

I say seemingly cuz in my current romani campaign march of time poped in when none of my italic cities were huge...and it didn't come when i played a makedonike campaign some time ago...

The march of time is simply a delaying factor for several things that happened in variating amount of time after the game starts, but would still almost most likely still happen. From the macedonian and greek mini reforms for a new pikemen unit each, to eastern factions using heavier cataphract cavalry for their personal guards. The KH probably can't use pikemen at the game start because not enough greek city states were experimenting with pikes or they weren't doing it in large enough numbers like they would later.

i remember reading that they gave some cities that were not in italy the ability to trigger the MOT just in case the Romani were destroyed by the AI...

Really? Could someone cofirm this, please? I'm anxious on destroying them, MoT is the only thing preventing me from steamrolling them ATM.

March of Time is triggered when any faction with the roman culture builds a huge_city in any province with the italy hidden_resource.

So that basically means that the Romans only can trigger the March of Time by building an Imperial Palace in these cities:

Arretium, Ariminum, Roma, Capua, Arpi, Taras, Rhegion
.
