Scoring for Great Acheivements

Rather than play the Conquer the World option which is totally unrealistic Ithought I would try the GA option for my English Campaign.

As such I am required to complete a number of successful crusades. My first sucessful one was Prince Edwards Crusade to Antioch. This captured the province and I got the success message but never saw any obvious points for doing so.

Then a few years later an Italian Crusade turned up and informing me they were on a holy mission asked me to give them control of the province. This I did moving my army to Tripoli.

Will I lose the points I might have got for the Antioch Crusade?

Hmm good question - I thought a crusade was disbanded when the province was in christian hands. I've seen this happen to me at least.

GA's do seem to be a little buggy at times. Its odd that the Italians asked you to do this. When playing as the Spanish I launched a crusade to Morocco on the popes behest. However a french crusade got there one turn before me. I got the message that since the province now was under the control of good catholics the crusade was disbanding. I think my king took a hit of a point of influence due to this.

Didz, when you say you got a successful message, do you mean a successful conquered the province message or a successful crusade complete one. If any enemy are under siege then the crusade is not counted as complete.\

On the subject of GA's I've noticed that conquered province points don't seem to add on correctly. AS the Danes, I'm supposed to get 2 GA's for every province I conquer and because I've been a busy boy, all my pips are red. I should be getting about 32 GA points (including homelands). however the Byz. who have just sat on their arses are getting far more than my self even though they are just defending homelands. I do realise that they get quite a few for this but I ought to be a long way out in front because I own almost all of northern Europe. Otherwise how is it possible for a faction such as the Danes who get pathetic homeland points to win short of eliminating all other factions. If I wanted to do that I would have selected conquest mode.

Yes! the crusade completed I captured the province and the crusade army disbanded and became a standard army under my control. I fought off a couple of Turkish counter-attacks captured Tripoli and then the Italian Crusade turned up and insisted I hand over Antioch to them.

I definately got the successful crusade message but I can't see any evidence of being awarded any points.

The crusade disappeared off my quest list but nothing else seemed to happen. (e.g. No Red Pips anywhere)

Something similar happened to me but I didn't realise there could be a gap of a few years in between. Recently a province my crusade was aiming for returned to Catholic hands and my crusade disbanded immediately: seems odd to me that AI crusades don't behave in the same way.
Anyway, what I really wanted to say was this: surely you felt, after doing all that work to get the province, that you were not going to hand over the province for any reason? It is an option to fight them instead. But perhaps you were in no position to get involved in a major war...

I have had similar non-scoring issues with my Early/Expert/Italian game where the trading GA failed to score in 1204. Unless that was because the Hungarians conveniently decided to blockade Venice cutting off thousands of florins in trade...In any case I haven't seen the little pip thingie pop up again even though it is meant to score at least twice more in the game.

Wasn't this one of the patch issues? Don't rightly recall

Emotionally I definitely felt that way. But as some of our politicians need to learn the hard way emotion is a bad premise for starting a war.

The fact of the matter was that Prince Edwards army (still about 1000 strong) was isolated. It was surrounded on all sides by hostile muslim forces with no way of replenishing its losses.

On the one hand it had fulfilled its mission and was therefore expendable on the other hand there were a lot of good troops that I wanted to keep if I could.

I had already taken the precaution of capturing Tripoli so that it had somewhere to retreat to if it lost a battle. So I was fortunate that I didn't have to fight the Italian's to survive.

The Italian Crusade had over 2,000 men in it and Italy was an ally. I might have been able to beat them and retain control of Antioch but in doing so would have lost a lot of men and would probably have lost to the next Jihad anyway.

Furthermore, at the time Antioch was only defended by a stockade whilst Tripoli had a keep and a few basic troop producing buildings in it.

So! I swallowed my pride and did the sensible thing in allowing the Italian Crusade to move in to Antioch. This enabled my smaller army to concentrate on defending Tripoli let the Italians take the heat from the Turks for a while and enabled me to complete a relatively easy second crusade to Tripoli which was little more than a reinforcement mission.

I have since repeated the process of expanding into Syria just in case the Italians send a crusade to Tripoli. However, whether I step aside again will depend upon the geo-political situation at the time. Italy are becoming a dominant force in the Balkans and recently killed the pope plus their GA points are on a par with my own.

I am already organising a campaign of subversion and insurrection amongst their Balkan provinces but if they try to send a crusade to Tripoli I may decide to fight as I now have troop producing capability in that region.

I am actually very pleased with the way it turned out though I still think I should have had the points for the Antioch and Tripoli crusades after all they were successful.
