Thread: Unschooled

    Default Unschooled

Bleh...in my ongoing Romani game I have a perfect Marius candidate come to age (sharp/charismatic/vigorous, plebian, and a bunch of other various traits which combine to make him a pretty clever guy), the only problem being I forgot about him for a while and left him in a backwater for about two years, so now he has the 'unschooled' trait. Will this harm the acquisition of future good traits or management/command/influence?

Actually, he'll probably pick up the practical trait soon, which give management +1. It's better than going down the scholastic trait line getting those negative traits at the end.

Which negative traits does scholastic give? And is this all written down somewhere or do I need to go poking round files? (I'm going to feel so foolish if its all there in the FAQ)

Influence and hit point penaltiwa, no bonuses, even though I think it should give management bonus, seeing as you would be quite clever.

Schooling definitely doesn't only give bad traits:

    GOOD
    GoodTactician
    MathematicsSkill
    NaturalPhilosophySkill
    RhetoricSkill
    PoeticSkill
    PhilosophySkill
    SmoothTalker
    InspiringSpeaker
    GoodEngineer
    GoodAdministrator
    ArchitectSkill
    LogisticalSkill
    TacticalSkill
    PoliticsSkill
    Various culture-specific traits
    Tons of good ancillaries

    BAD
Scholarly (although it's a prerequisite for many good traits, the particular trait has negative effects)
    PublicAtheism
    Aesthetic

Do you have a similar list for "Unschooled"?

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. H. L. Mencken

Well, yes, but only in the EDCT format. I just searched out the academies and scholarly criteria in EDCT to create that list, possibly I or someone else can do that here for unschooled too. I know that at least PoliticsSkill can also be acquired by unschooled characters, they're often more practical and can persuade by enthusiasm rather than superior knowledge.

To become "unschooled" a character needs to be under 28 and dull, uncharismatic and lazy:

    Code:
    Trigger Unschooled_Low_Intelligence_and_Lazy
      WhenToTest CharacterTurnEnd

        Condition AgentType = family
              and Trait NaturalIntelligence < 3
              and Trait NaturalEnergy < 4
              and Trait NaturalCharisma < 3
              and Trait Unschooled < 1
              and Trait TurnsAlive < 3

      Affects Unschooled 1 Chance 5
Men of the Hour are more likely to be unschooled:

    Code:
    Trigger Practical_Self_taught_ManOfHour
      WhenToTest LesserGeneralOfferedForAdoption

        Condition AgentType = family
              and Trait NaturalIntelligence > 4
              and Trait NaturalEnergy > 4
              and Trait Unschooled < 1
and not Trait Scholarly > 0

      Affects Unschooled 2 Chance 25
so are characters of the following people:

    Ptolemaioi Aigyptios
    Getai Bessos
    Iberia Celtiberi
    Iberia Vettones
    Iberia Vaccei
    Epeiros Chaon
    Epeiros Thesprotos
    Epeiros Molossos
    Epeiros Liburnos
    Baktria Persikos
    KH Kres
    Casse Cruithni
    Arverni Cruithni
    Aedui Cruithni

Beeing unschooled might lead to become a "self taught man" with these possible benefits:

    Rhetoric Skill
    Philosophy Skill
    NaturalPhilosophy Skill
    Architect Skill
    Good Engineer
    Good Administrator
    Logistical Skill
    Tactical Skill
    Politics Skill
    Pragmatic
    Mathematics Skill

You are right I forgott the trigger for the "practical self-taught" man:

    Code:
    Trigger Practical_Self_taught
      WhenToTest CharacterTurnEnd

        Condition AgentType = family
              and Trait NaturalIntelligence > 2
              and Trait NaturalEnergy > 3
              and Trait Unschooled < 1
and not Trait Scholarly > 0
              and Trait TurnsAlive < 3

      Affects Unschooled 2 Chance 5
EDIT: Correction this one always goes up to the 2nd level.
