I've got the feeling that's probably mainly due to them being pessimistic, I'm not sure there is a way to combat it. Apart from not accepting pessimistic suitors or adoptees.

Course that doesn't stop you getting mewling idiots for children.

I find it seems to go in waves like that. You get a generation of superb generals and administrators, then most of their children are incompetents and lunatics. Not even deliberately suiciding them before they spawn any children of their own is much of a solution.

Sometimes if you're lucky, their children turn out to be alright.

Do not force march. Depression is easily acquired for lazy people who are forced to tire themselves to death, and hard to get rid of, nearly impossible for pessimistic people. If your guy is optimistic by nature he'll likely shrug it off eventually.

Having problems getting EB2 to run? Try these solutions.

Don´t know if it´s true, but someone (I believe someone very trustworthy on such matters) sayed that walking a lot in desert, and especially enemy desert (such as the untakeable Arabian one) will easily make your generals depressed.

I don't come here a lot any more. You know why? Because you suck. That's right, I'm talking to you. Your annoying attitude, bad grammar, illogical arguments, false beliefs and pathetic attempts at humour have driven me and many other nice people from this forum. You should feel ashamed. Report here at once to recieve your punishment. Scumbag.

your forgetting your "a's" before desert, your phrasing makes it sound like dessert would fit in better, and as we all know walking in a dessert would be pretty awesome.
