Cease fire: Ever had one accepted?

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone had ever had their offer of a ceasefire accepted and if so what were the circumstances.

I attacked two countries, had some wars and then stopped attacking them. I have not moved aggressively against them for about 20 years and at least one of them has never attacked me. I currently control 65% of the map. However, every single offer of a cease fire that I give gets refused. This has gone on for years.

How can it be done?

I have had cease-fires proposals accepted. It happened early in the game after I had conquered 2-3 provinces (at most) as the HRE.

I think the circumstances were I had taken Silesia on the first turn of the game and the Poles accepted a cease fire on the third turn.

It is very rare though, and seems to never happen once you become one of the big boys in the game - not to mention the biggest. The fact that a faction is iretrievably doomed to annihilation should it continue to fight has no bearing at all on the behaviour of the AI.

To my mind, this is the single biggest flaw with the SP AI in the Glory Goal game.

you say you haven't moved aggressively against them for 20 years, but apparently you have done so before...

the AI is not that stupid. In general the factions will accept cease fires, but they don't like to be pushed around...which means no prolonged wars against them.

i like to play the trading game and usually offer cease fires immediately when a war starts. They often accept. But lets face it...would you like to offer a cease fire to someone who raped and pillaged your homelands?

I have had many ceasefires accepted, even after I have started some of the wars and then right after I get what I want I go for a ceasefire, and they have all been accepted thus far in the game I am playing.

From other games it seems that as you get too large and powerful the AI empires dont want to make peace with you. This is actually a balancing feature in the game to make the game harder as you get bigger and more powerful. What would be the fun of the game if it were too easy???

So essentially, the earlier on in the game and the less powerful you are, the easier it is to get ceasefires and alliances accepted. As you get bigger and more powerful it will be harder to get them accepted.

maybe true but this has the reverse effect on me, i get so angry with them blockading me and being at war with me i go out of my way to wipe them out entirely.

Also i have reservations about attacking a friend or neutral, but I'll stamp all over someone i've tried to make peace with but who won't accept even though they started it (how immature an argument).

One of the reason is that there is not penalty for staying at war for a long time. I thing the game mechanics should included a progressive drop in provinces loyalty when the war drags on (as is logical). It would encourage the AI and the human player to look for peace.

Good points but war in the middle ages was fought differently than latter wars. The 100 Years War was fought on and off with times of very little action to no action. So patriotism was not much of an issue.

Plus, as was mentioned above, how many of us would ever surrender to a foe that has pillaged and raped our homelands? Look at Constantinople for example. Their entire empire was wiped out with just the city left and yet they fought to the very end against the blood-thirsty Turks.

So although it's annoying when I have fought a faction down to one province, it doesn't surprise me that they won't surrender. Hey, there's always the chance of a re-emerging leader of royal blood to lead the people into a glorious new war against the oppressive, tyrannical occupier. So in that case, the single province faction wants you to wipe him out so that they have a chance of a comeback. And, as we all know, those comebacks can be sometimes very successful.
