In history, a privateer is a pirate who is sanctioned by a government to raid other people's ships. The line is blurry as to when someone is one or the other. Usually, people were both. Because both acted pretty much the same and it was more to do with how other governments recognized you at a point in time.

IMHO, standard chivalric characters are boring. I like complicating them. I did it with Jan in KotR. Though that involved much more IC yelling.

TF made a cool female character that was fun to interact IC with. So I had Mak fall in love. The rest sort of worked itself out from there.

See above. Ioannis is just as chivalrous as everyone else. Though the way he expresses it certainly could be seen by some as... controversial.

Chivalry is subjective. The game takes certain actions of your avatar and assigns "chivalry" stats. But there is a whole lot of gray area to play with. Dread/Chivalry being reduced to a simple black/white dichotomy is far too simple and nothing like the "real" world.
