Question Should I return to MTW

Recently I have been playing MTW2 + Kingdoms. Is it worth returning to MTW? All views will be seriously considered.

You realize, of course, that pretty much every response you receive here is going to be biased.

I've always preferred MTW for its superior atmosphere, gameplay, and excellent AI. So long as you don't have a problem with older graphics, I'd say you should come on back.

It really depends on what you like (and what you don't like), though. Perhaps the most pertinent question to be asked is, why are you considering going back to MTW in the first place?

If you want an actual challenge and more realistic gameplay in battles then the answer is yes.

If you want to steamroll everyone on the map and experience a lack of a sense of achievement, by all means stick to MTW2... or Rome.

You haven't played TW truly until you've successfully executed a pin-and-flank with the appropriately clunky spearmen and the slow and difficult to manoeuver heavy cavalry --- or until you've been unable to break your enemies' spearwall. It's a very different play experience, one that I'd highly recommend.

I've only played RTW, not M2TW...

But, everytime I fire up an MTW campaign I know that one way or another, the AI will have a really good go at destroying my fledgling Empire. Every battle counts, and depending on what way you go, it can dictate the rest of the game. - That's why I keep coming back...

MTW was the best...and I gladly come here to hurt to hear how good it was when I traded it in a few years for a discount on Jedi Knight...oh the humanity!

Indeed. There's nothing quite like humiliating a squadron of Crusader knights with some "lowly" Bedouin Camel Warriors, or overwhelming the Almoravids with the sheer weight & numbers of your Spanish Jinnettes. Or successfully executing the Danes' version of the hammer-and-anvil tactic with Vikings & Landsmen against desperate Norwegian defenders who have nothing to lose....

Exactly. Even though I play Shogun and MTW less frequently than I used to, I never stop playing entirely. I absolutely love strategy games when you're often risking the fate of your entire kingdom/empire on a single battle. Ah yes, good stuff.

Well surely you can pick up another copy somewhere. MTW Gold/Eras Edition is pretty cheap, maybe $20.00 (U.S.) or thereabouts. Come on; don't give up man!
