This from the last paragraph of the December Computer Gaming World review:

    Quote
Like its predecessor, Medieval possesses incredible depth and replay value in both strategy and tactical gameplay, making the Total War franchise once again a leading candidate for Strategy Game of the Year. And yet, Medieval:Total War exceeds its predecessor in almost every way - there simply isn't enough room in this magazine to extol its virtues.

    Not too shabby.

And deservedly so. Well done CA !!!

There are so many things I love about this game! Aside from all the more dramatic, stunning and obvious aspects I love even the little touches such as the portraits for leaders etc.

The Vice & Virtues add a great deal to the feel of the campaign as you feel you are dealing more with people than some statistics / data.

I love the victory points. It's great to see how you are fairing with relation to other factions along the way. Further to what they have already achieved, it would be great to see further development of this with graphs etc as seen in the likes of EUII.

Whilst playing MTW, just when I think I have seen it all and interest would wain, something happens that takes me by surprise.

    Thanks CA!

    Cheers

this means more to me than that pc gamer award or whatever, CGW is a respectable gaming magazine imo. (or at least it used to be, I haven't had a subscription in 2 years)

oh well, still very good marks from one of my fav reviewers.

Last time I bought a 5 star CGW strat game I was overjoyed, guess I beat em to the punch this time. (the last one was warlords 3, a spectacular fantasy turn based strat if you're interested).

props CA, but uh, for the record, warlords did get after release material, (in addition to patches), to use. new scenarios, etc... just thought I'd point that out..

Ya, CGW is probably the best print review out there. Nice job CA.

I can't believe you just posted that. I was a fan of CGW for close to 15 years until I let the subscription run out in 2000. What soured me to that magazine? It seemd that in the span of only two or three years CGW suddenly became plagued by weak and inconsistent reviews, political correctness, idiotic editorials and so on and so forth.

The funny thing is even though my subscription ran out I kept receiving CGW in the mail. As a gift for ordering some games from Chips and Bits I given a two year subscription for free! Talk about an unwanted gift!

CGW or not, Medieval is still a 5 star game to me.

If it is a 5 Star game why does it have all these bugs.

But it still 1 of the 10 best game that i have ever played, I think. But its dropping a month ago it was among the 5 best. Ineed the patch

I used to be a CGW fan as well, 8 or 10 years ago I would get my subscribtion sent to France (see the level of motivation ; but at the time we have fairly moronic game magazines in France).

But I've been disappointed too. I'm now satisfied with gamespot.com, the annual membership is cheap, reasonable reviews and it's updated daily, of course (crap, that sounds like a commercial endorsement and I'm not getting paid for it). I'll stick to the net for my game info from now on, I think.
