I see though what abou is aiming at. If the Hypaspistai were merely the immediate footguard and officer corp (which became the core of the Argyraspids' officers) after Alexander's timeperiod, and some operated permanently in the peltast role, and then replaced the hypaspists on the battlefield, then we really do not need the hypaspists, in makedonia to begin with. at least, that's how i'm seeing this.
all this is confusing, but its going somewhere.
