I Thouroughly reccomend the Victory conditions mod. works like a charm, and, as far as I can tell, is SG-compatible.

does difficulty play into how effective this works?

I tried giving the Seleucids a few million mnai and several stacks of their silver shields (spawned near Antioch to stop the Yellows from getting it), but they ended up marching those troops into Asia Minor and attacking my holdings there. That's the last time I do the AI a favor. I ended up losing Pergamon, Nikaia, and Halikarnassos to the troops I spawned for the AS.

check out some of the pics on the faction progression thread - there you'll see that the yellow death has a nasty habit of destroying everything in its path.

Give AS some troops when besieged by the ptolemaioi ( remember to give them some money aswell so you dont ruin them through army expenses, and generally, in most campaigns, AS needs some economical assistance ), write "add_money numidia, -40000" once in a while ( often ) in the console, and when things get out of hand you could use Force Diplomacy to distribute settlements to your liking.
If you help the AI to historical expansion a balance can be achieved on most of the map, it constrains the ptolemaioi if for example you aid the AS to keep their rightful presence in Syria until it is time to give Antiochos III of the AS Palestine, following his successful campaign into Judea ( 198 BC ), and giving Saba Petra/Sinai to represent the Nabataeans and act as a buffer zone between AS and ptolemaioi territory and Palmyra, Meroe and Axum aswell perhaps, if not to Saba then to the slave faction, is yet a way to keep the ptolemaioi where they belong. Also if you create strong rebel garrisons in the settlements east of the Saba, on the coast of the Red Sea ( Ubar, Homna, Gerrha ) you can direct the Saba to concentrate their raids to the west instead, in effect causing trouble for the ptolemaioi in their homeland, which one shouldn´t fret for putting under pressure as it seems nearly impossible for the AI to successfully invade and hold Egypt.
A strong Saba east and south of the ptolemaioi is the best choice to keep them occupied and give AS some respite as the seleucids are inadequate to keep their syrian and palestinian regions without player intervention, and because most factions expand north ( towards Norway or was that a myth ? ).

Fighting the yellow death now with my Roman legions. It's going to be a long and hard war.

But I agree that the Ptolies sometimes get out of control. In my latest campaign the AS are gone by the year 210. The Ptolies are very well capable of totally destroying the AS and absorbing all their provinces, while on a single occasion I had when AS were actually beating the Ptolies they've failed to launch any serious attack on Egypt proper.

AS is at a huge disadvantage here. Ptolies have only one enemy that is the AS, while the AS has to fight on many fronts. Core Ptolie lands are not threatened by anything, but successful Ptolie attack in Asia Minor gives them access to core AS regions.

I don't know how it could be balanced, because historically Ptolies were never that strong.

Didn't have the Ptolemies historically have to worry about native rebellions, limiting their abilities to recruit native forces (i.e. sucessfull rebellions after training machimoi for Raphia) and occupying some of their forces in ecypt?
Maybe having Upper Egypt rebell (giving the cities there to the rebels) may force the yellows to deploy some of their troops southward.

Well the Selucids seem to be more concerned with the pahlava and bactria rather with the Ptolemies, so in many campaigns they finish engulfed by the later. To prevent this I use FD in my campaign, but Anthocea and Damascus have been lost over a hundred times by the AS. I also tried the move_character cheat, to move AS stalks to Syria, this have given better results than FD. But I will give the victory condition mod a try if it is SG friendly.
    Cheers.

Give AS, Salamis/Kypros for example, if you want it to survive without superintendence.

*lol* Almost looks so. That would be the final proof that Romans in fact had been decedants of the Asian Troians - and not all had left with Aeneas.

Meh we've had him write 100 lines for that; blitzing while beta testing makes for less results (army composition etc.). And IIRC I fixed that sentence a looong time ago. <_<

Rotlf! I also noticed that blue spot in Greece, I imagine how tricky the things went down there.

Uh, I thought that Bactria somehow finished there (or he gave it the provinces from KH with forcediplomacy for some reason). :P

What i hate about the yellow death and the silver death, is that they usually stop fighting and ally each others against me, when i am playing my Pontos , hayasdan and pahlawa game.

As for my saba game, they conquered the whole As and the yellow spreads to the hindus. But they will have a bad surprise, soon, since two sabean armies are coming from ethiopia and another one from arabia proper
