Thread: casse is killing my patience!

Question casse is killing my patience!

So about 8 months ago, I decided to abandon playing Romani campaigns because everytime I defeat Carthage I over extend myself and lose my territory in Spain to Luso and either one of the Gaul factions takes all of Italia.
I really like a challenge though, I actually love campaigns heading into the lower 100s B.C. So I decide to play one of the hardest campaigns of all, Casse on vh/vh (I really do suck, but I figure the best way to get better is to always play on vh/vh). For literally 20 years I build up my forces and my one city waiting for the opportunity to attack, this would have made a good AAR but I am lazy, but either way as soon as I am about to take the last settlement in Ireland (I took all of Britain) my general dies (age 66), all my other guys (3 total) are stationed around my capital with 3/4th full fresh stacks waiting for boats to be made. Its now 190 B.C. Rome has exploded into Gaul (as well as all the western med. islands and parts of Iberia) and is at peace with Sweboz (both are at war with huge Getai) they send three full stacks full of of 1-3 bronze troops (most at half strength though from fighting gauls I assume) over about 4 years (17 turns to be specific). I dont auto calc any of these battles and I fight and replay and fight and replay and during the 4th replay I end up having my final general dieing just as I am about to finish off the third stack (all three Roman stack had no FM's thank god). With my family dieing four times in a row, my patience wore out and I uninstalled EB, only to reinstall two months later. I want to try this campaign again however (I now have had a successful Romani and Carthage campaign) and I desperately needs tips on how to fight off the Roman principes and triarii both militarily and economically. Any ideas?

Exclamation Re: casse is killing my patience!

Always play your battles on Medium difficulty, campaign hard/very hard. The EB team does not reccomend any other battle difficulty other than Medium, for which it was designed. Playing on any other difficulty will serverly mess up the battles, as the AI does not magically "improve" in intelligent, but only have their units get a drastic and ridiculous increase in morale and fighting ability, which is hard-coded.

    EDIT: HEEEEEEEEEY, WELCOME BACK!!!!!

You played Casse, one of the most difficult factions, on VH/VH?

Then you shouldn't be surprised you got your arse kicked! I'm surprised you did so well - I got annihilated by the Elutheroi in the first 3 years when I tried that - they attacked and took my starting (and only) city, and I was dead.

Now THAT is what you call being owned by the AI! No-one else in the entire EB community has been beaten that fast!

After that, I only play Casse on M/M!

I found the Casse very easy, what with my isolated, invasion-proof, money-machine homeland. I could send out large armies of high quality troops and expand in Europe at my leisure. I had fun with it until I tried researching the faction.

Kudos to you strategos for admitting that.

I sometimes play the hard (not the Nigh-Impossible ones) on H/H because of the challenge (campaign on H because of a more reasonable diplomacy AI and no rampaging rambo psychos who won't surrender even if they have NOTHING left ), but VH/VH? That's some kind of fun-killer in my eyes...The gigantic boni for the battle AI is more than ridiculous, while the "Hard"-bonus also is ridiculous of course, but makes the campaigns very challenging, you really start looking out for every one of your units and you notice that your expansion is actually slowed down to AI level...I love not becoming the world's unbeatable superpower in the first 50 years of game gaining hundreds of thousands mnai every turn...

Well, to return somewhat to topic, I myself did manage to survive with Casse on H/H and as soon as you have secured all of Great Britan and Ireland the rest of the campaign is a cakewalk...

If you really want to pull your crazy VH/VH campaign off I highly recommend searching this forum for tips/gameplay guides for the Casse Faction, there happened to be many questions about how to play them

Yes. Hire the whole of Belgium. And then some more.
Spoiler Alert, click show to read:

Cheap but effective: Belgae Milnaht + Belgae Spearmen + Sotaroas + Iosatae + Batroas & co + Generals (keep two in a stack minimum for prolonged campaigns) Note that Cass chariots tend to destroy Celtic & Germanic & Italian cav if supported by a few Sotaroas.

And try VH/M for a change.

    Hey all, new poster here.

I downloaded EB a few weeks ago after finding I can't play MTW2 due to video problems (even uninstalling/reinstalling didn't work -- all drivers are up to date, too).

Wow! I'm glad I did! I've tinkered with a few different factions -- Romani, Baktria, Makedon, but settled on Cassi for the long haul. Yeah, there's little historical evidence there, but man, what fun.

My strategy for the first 80+ turns was to simply disband my entire army and my one fleet after sending my diplomat to Europe and build up my city. I'd take the family members our for nice weather spins in the countryside so they didn't accrue bad traits (except for the leader, who I left at home).

Then I began my explosion, including heavy use of both native troops and mercs. I took Cornwall then headed up the middle. I have three total cities at the moment with the fourth coming next time I play.

I figure I'll have all of the UK in my hands by turn 120 or so. Then it's to Europe.

    Patience is the key.

Used to play VH/VH....when you get used to it its about as easy as M/VH.....the only problem there was that I got bored of fighting Uber stacks every turn...yeah I killed 2 or 3....but my invasion of germany as casse eventually wore down cause of the endless sweboz stacks...and their uber bonuses lol.....thats when the fun just ran out.

Plus, having to make another 2 armies takes a LONG time.... >.>

lol and I didnt even try fighting the romans on VH....played it back in .8 with the gauls....those pedites extraordinarii would just. NOT. DIE!!!!

    >< lol

But seriously, M/VH camp. is probably the best...yet a bit easy sometimes.... if you wanna up the challenge try H/VH....thats just about right....you can actually lose at least >.>
