    Default Question for Alexander-EB users

    1. Did you actually buy the Alexander game, or are you just using the game engine you downloaded from somewhere?

    2. How much of an improvement is the AI battle tactics?
If the original RTW AI was 4, and BI AI was 5.5, what would you rate Alex AI?

    3. Any crashes or conflicts with EB mod or EB-mini mods?

    thanks

    1. Using RTW Gold and Alexander bought through Steam.
    2. I've been very pleasantly surprised by the battle tactics, especially when assaulting a city. This may be due in part to the fact I have started using Sinuhets battle formations though. Probably rate a 7 on your scale
    3. Using Sinuhets formations and win conditions with no problems. A lot more stable and noticeably quicker.

I have been using alex for so long that I dont even remember vanilla formations

in your scale I would classify them as 6.5 or 7 , I use (and recomend) sinhuets (look in the minimod thread though I prefer them without the tweaked cavalry mass)

IMO the load time is a bit lower (like 10 secs or so in my comp) and a friend of mine has several campaigns that have got past 100bc (one in 84bc) wich speaks about stability

and about how we play with alex exe... if you don't buy alexander expansion it would be illegal...

but I dont know if everyone that plays alex-eb has bought the whole game

[NOTE2: does somebody knows if a moderator can change the "ownership" of a post? say I would like to edit a post a friend made... who should I ask?

NOTE2:in the meantime if you're ever attracted to alex.exe use the lnk in my signature not the alexander EB thread]

Yeh, I'm trying to buy Alex, but Steam is just ridiculous. They want to make me buy the gold version and then Alex. Alex is already $15.00 - which I find overpriced for a "download" (I don't even get a CD/DVD) of an expansion.

I've heard all manner of statements on whether or not alexander has aggressive AI. The AI is either wonderful (comparatively), or very passive, only fighting back when attacked, in order to take back stolen territory. Can anyone say for sure which is the truth? Does the alex ai really refuse to ever invade another country, forever passive until attacked?
    thanks

No, that's definitly not true. The AI attacks you as opportunistic as with any other exe. The difference is that it is not that backstabbish: an alliance gives you at least a little security not to be attacked the very next turn after signing it.

I don't know about the campaign AI, but the battlefield AI is considerably more intelligent when it comes to flanking etc. It still seems to send out units one by one to be crushed by my entire force, however, rather than advancing its entire army together and acting like a cohesive force. I believe that it also still dances around when under missile fire as well rather than attacking or just digging in and waiting out the barrage.
